For today a trip along the mountain road in centrum from Romania last month , it is considered one of the most beautiful drives on the world, about 150 km long, called the Transfagarasan, a beautiful starting point for hikes to some peaks of the Fagarasan Mountains, located about 200 meters above the high road. The road is completely passable only four months of the year from July to October. In the time from November 1 to June 30 the road is closed at the Bâlea pass.
Here is the Vidraru dam area where it was very difficult to find a parking place. Luckily a car just left, otherwise we could not make a stop.
The pass connects large Valachia south of the Carpathian mountains with Transylvania north along serpentines, forest, lake, dam, restaurants, hotel and wonderful mountain panorama. Not to forget the bears that greet tourists along the road. From my point of view, it is very dangerous, there have been many accidents. Tourists still stop to take pictures and admire them. I also took a few pictures but only from the car. I see a lot of bears.
At the top as well as on the way it is possible to buy local sausage, ham, cheese, brandy or to take a break in a restaurant.
According to Wikipedia, officially the road construction started on March 1970, by order of the then President Nicolae Ceaușescu, lasted four and a half years of construction until the road was opened on September 1974. Required billions of Lei- Romanian currency , milion kilograms of high explosives and unfortunately many workers life.
