The Castle Hallwyl dates back to the 13 th century, a romantic Castle flanked by three towers, located on two islands surrounded by one man-made and two natural arms of the River Aabach, near lake Hallwil. The Lords of Hallwyl built a residential tower in a strategically favorable location in the late 12th century. Today one of the best preserved water castles in Switzerland. a museum inside schowing its history and medieval lif, in courtyard also used for parties or events. We start a wonderful walk around the castle.
Originally was built as a defensive structure but grandually transformed inan elegant residence. Living at Hallwyl Castle during its golden age must have been a fascinating experience. Of course, it has many upsides as well as downsides.
The mixture of medieval fortress, Renaissance elegance and later refinements creates an atmosphere of history, nature and romance. A serene location with a clear , gently flowing river waters. Towering trees provide shade and near you can see the Lake Hallwil.
The back island can only be reached via a bridge from the front island, the younger part of the castle grounds.
Outside the castle walls, the Hallwilersee nature reserve attracts many visitors.
The surrounding beautiful landscape, as well as the opportunities for trips, enhance the tranquil and majestic aura of the castle.
