The Big Buddha is located on Lantau Island by Ngong Ping in Hong Kong. About 34 meters high and weighing about 250 tons, it is one of the five largest statues in China. The Big Buddha is a large bronze statue, the official name is Tian Tan Buddha and is part of the Po Lin monastery complex. After 260 steps on the way up, you will see a series of six Bodhisattva statues and at the top is a small exhibition about the Buddha's life. Thanks to its magnificent size, the statue of Buddha has attracted millions of visitors every year, locals as well as from all over the world alike.
To get there you can take the Ngong Ping 360 cable car from Thung Chung ore use a bus to Ngong Ping. with the cable car you can have an amazing view over Lantau Island.
The construction of the Big buddha began in 1990 and was completet in 1993. Its seat on a lotus throne, a symbol of purity in Buddhism.
