For today a traditional Swiss spring festival called Sehsenläuten from yestarday. The Zurich Böögg could not be successfolly lit last year. The great enthusiasm was obvious. The strong winds put an end to the event organizers' plans. This year it was perfect again. Around 3,500 guild members in historical costumes, traditional costumes and uniforms, in addition, riders and exclusively horse-drawn carriages take part in the parade. The joyful festival is accompanied by music corps, flowers, and a good mood. First for the begin a few shots from the parade.
In Zurich, the Böögg has cherry ear rings this year, it looks like a snowman and symbolizes winter. Burning the Böögg symbolise to drive away winter and herald the arrival of spring.
In the past, there was not just one Böögg, there were several Bööggs, which met their fate at various locations in the quarter. The two customs, Sechseläuten and the burning of the Böögg, were only combined at the end of the 19th century.
I took so many photos as my cell phone was empty, luckily I always have a second phone with me. And here is the Böögg, a big snowman, effigy filled with explosives, espesially in its head, and exatctly at 6 PM set on fire. The fasterthe Böögg head explodes than better the summer weather is believed to be. This year it took about 26 minutes until the head exploded. So we will have a nice summer, I hoppe so.
Have a beautiful summer and day!
