This temple now only contains the basic structure of the building because it was eaten away by time and war. That sentence was heard from a guide who told the history of the Buddhist temple that has existed since the time of the Siamese kingdom, which became a silent witness to the establishment of the Siamese kingdom to Thailand until now.
If we look around, there are no more sturdy buildings, there are only ruins of destroyed walls, even many of the small Buddha statues, there are only their steps.
I paid 20 baht to enter the temple as a maintenance fee and others, however, I got quite a lot of feedback regarding the history of the grandeur of the Siamese kingdom in Ayutthaya.
Wat Yai Chaya Mongkol is quite unique, there are many Buddha statues that are quite large in size. Because the building of this temple has been destroyed, so we can see the Buddha statues from several spots, without having to enter the room. That is the art of this temple, in fact they should have been able to build walls and renovate, but that is the art of visiting this temple.
The very large Buddha statues, which are believed to be very sacred and important, are well maintained and given orange cloth. Not to cover the entire statue but to be worn as 'clothes'. The Buddha statues also seem to be cared for and maintained so that they are not damaged. Additions and patches are made to keep the statues there until now.
There is one tall stupa flanked by 2 very large Buddha statues. This is a temple that indicates that the Siamese kingdom was indeed very glorious in Ayutthaya. How could a magnificent temple like this be built hundreds of years ago?
The structure of the building seem very different from temple in Indonesia, such as Borobudur and Prambanan which are made of stone. For this temple, it appears that at that time bricks were already used as the main foundation. It can be seen from the erosion of the cement which finally looks orange and the bricks are arranged to form a large building.
In front of the temple, there is a small Buddha statue that surrounds Wat Yai Chayamongkol. There are dozens of Buddha statues with the same shape, some of which have lost their heads and their bodies are still sitting and meditating, some of which are larger in size, located right in the 4 corners and sides.
Right behind the temple, there is a fairly large park and even a place to take photos. It is better if you want to take a good photo, it should be from this park. the place is quite okay and quiet even though it is a little opposite the sun and causes back light. It is better to come here in the afternoon.
See you the next time hive friends!
