Hi Hive Community, in this new post I want to tell you about the city of Ferrara and its archaeological museum.
I have visited the city of Ferrara several times, thanks to the university, in fact there was the seat of my course in Quaternary Prehistory and Archeology, so often, due to the exams, I had to go to this city.
The city of Ferrara is located in the Italian region of Emilia Romagna, and is known thanks to the fame obtained in the Renaissance period. In fact, in this period, the lords who governed it, the Este, made him reach an important position within the Italy of the time, and also built numerous buildings such as the Este castle. In the same way it is also very important from a university point of view, it was founded in 1391 and is one of the oldest in the world.
National Archaeological Museum of Ferrara
The National Archaeological Museum of Ferrara is located inside the palace of Ludovico il Moro, built in the 16th century. So even the palace alone deserves to be visited!
Outside you can see a large loggia with columns and inside numerous sumptuous rooms with decorated ceilings.The archaeological museum was inaugurated in 1935. It is rich in numerous finds from the ancient city of Spina, an Etruscan city, which was located directly on the Adriatic, and was one of the most important Etruscan cities for this area, together with Felsina (current Bologna).
Inside it is possible to find several rooms, each of which contains various finds such as the Piroghe room, which contains two boats, probably from the Roman age, 14 meters long. and 12 mt. ;
The hall of the inhabited area of Spina which contains numerous objects relating to the construction of buildings, which we know, being in a purely marshy area, to be built on stilts. Another room concerns the necropolis, located on the main floor, and it is possible to see many necropolises found in the Spina area as well as about 4000 tombs in Valle Treba and Valle Pega. It is impressive to see the richness of the funerary equipment of the tombs of the time, especially the presence of numerous gold jewels.
I leave you the link of the museum below, for information about opening hours and prices, given the COVID situation, it is also possible to make online visits,
