Last summer I somehow managed to have a few days break away in Portugal. Looking back, I'm wondering how on earth I managed it but I am glad I did. A solo trip just to switch off and, well, avoid people for the most part!
So during this trip, I flew into Lisbon and was saying on the coast in Cascais.
This meant I could spend a lovely afternoon in the hilltop village of Sintra nearby.
Where I thought it would be a good idea to walk to the top of that hill and onto Moorish Castle. I mean, it doesn't look that far does it??
Well on second thought, this being my starting point, yeah, that's a long way!
Still, at least the walk up provided the chance to see some lovely architecture, as well as stairs, lots of stairs
did I mention stairs?
Still, there was a bit of respite on the way
With a stop to view this old church building
Anyhow, the walk continues!
At this point, you would be thinking I am a glutton for punishment, because, after that hill, there was...
Thankfully it was just a tiny number of stairs, and it gave a chance to turn around and have a look at this viewpoint.
At this point I don't think I was even half way, what with the forest section to walk
With this gateway marking the start of that.
Although within the forest section it was still easy to look upwards and spot a castle-like villa at the top of one of the hills.
Thousands of steps and hundreds of flights later, and finally made it to Moorish Castle.
I think now I can let the viewpoints speak for themselves
And then there is the view from the castle itself
WIth a view looking down towards the building that's right at the start of this set!
But we will end this on two more views from within the castle
