A little variety is good. I still have a lot of pictures from the Azores to report about, but at the weekend we made a nice trip to the southern Algarve where we discovered great things. As you might now from my many posts in the past, there are many ruins to find here on the Algarve in Portugal. By scrolling over google maps I´ve found a place near Portimao, on the other side of the river we haven´t been before.
It´s called Torre da Lapa and its a watchtower from the 17th century. I knew that where such a ruin stands there is certainly more to discover.
Here in the south there are so many places like this one with endless walking tracks, ruins and beautiful nature. The blue sky and the golden sandstone cliffs always make these little hikes special. Luckily the weather is much better now then weeks ago, the ocean is crystal clear again and the temperatures are that high that flowers begin to bloom.
That watchtower from the 17th century we´ve found looks like it went through some restoration as it looks almost like new. A very nice place with great views over the ocean, no wonder they have chosen this place to watch out for pirates.
One thing I like most here is exploring all these ruins. I always wonder for what purpose they were built. Some are not even finished. You could even see some remains of walls that probably date back to the 17th century as well.
The best thing for me about these ruins is, that you can always be certain that where there are ruins there are some graffitis. Some of them are good but most of them are just scribble. Anyway, the colours on the golden walls always make up for a good photo, especially when the sun is shining.
I don´t get the spelling error on that first photo. Can´t think of it to be a mistake. Does this make any sense to one of you? Enie one = Anyone
This was only a few of the ruins I could see, there were plenty more of them in the distance what makes it an awesome place to explore for hours.
What a beautiful start into the day and the weekend. After exploring that region for a while we were searching for a nice place to have a picknick. On days like this one we always gut out lunch with us.
After lunch we discovered an even more fascinating place we haven´t seen before. The algarve doesn´t stop to surprise me even after all the time we´ve spent here. Stay tuned for my next post to find out about that awesome place. Here is a little glimpse of what to expect.
you will find this post on pinmapple as well
