Hello adventurers! Today I took a short walk through a site of public interest and quite interesting in the Sintra area, it is located about 20 meters high and you also have an excellent view of the Atlantic, visiting Alto da Vigia allows you to enjoy and learn about the beaches from Portugal and at the same time you will learn general culture since this was classified as a "Necropolis", the beach where the necropolis is located is called: "Maçãs", join me in this small and "nutritious" adventure!ππ©π
I prefer to choose the beaches in the south of Setubal because they don't have waves, they are more beautiful and you can go diving or snorkeling without any problem! here you will shower directly in the ocean making your adventure a little less relaxing! However, it is quite a visit in summer, not only to bathe there are many activities to do here from trails along the coast, climbing, biking or simply coming here to learn a little about ancient Roman culture! I promise you will have a nice family day!ππ
The town you see in the background is called: "Rodizio" it has nothing special but there are some cheap hotels to spend a few days of vacation near the beach, on this side of Sintra it is more difficult to pay for any water activity since the tours are more to the south a little closer to the center of Lisbon! therefore it is something more to relax, by the way you have to have your own or rented vehicle here it is impossible to get around with public transport!ππ§
Maceira viewpointππ©/ Mirador Maceiraππ

I have to admit that this was my favorite part of the experience, the little path to get to the "Maceira" viewpoint, when you are walking through the vegetation the landscape begins to open up and you have a landscape similar to that of the movie Jurassic Park, you will say that I am exaggerating but it's worth it, it's a 20 minute walk, you can do it with small children!πππ

Beautiful landscape, right? In one of my posts about dinosaur footprints, a few kilometers later, it ends up connecting with this trail, however, they are two different environments, since you are at a higher altitude, I would say more than 300 meters. This area was previously a Roman trade route and it is because of that we see some archaeological zones! one of the things that the romans had was to build houses near the sea.πππ
Archaeological areaππ©/ Zona arqueologicaππ

The Roman "Sanctuary" that was built here had a purpose because it was located in a high area and it was used for cults of: "empire, sun and moon"; It dates from between the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD! These spaces were called "we fear" that they were a place of religious worship for officials or people of high military or political position or rich families! the purpose was to separate them from ordinary people! There is little information about the archaeological site, which is believed to have been occupied by the Arabs in the "XII" century, later the "masonry" was reused by local residents to create their houses!ππ

They have been able to identify some writings engraved on the stones discovered in the place and among the phrases read: "long life to the empire, and salute the emperor", when the archaeologists excavated here they discovered some "Roman inscriptions that were addressed to the sun and the luna", an altar dating from the 12th century that alludes to the "Moors" and objects such as ceramics, building blocks and pots!π©π
A local churchππ©/ Una iglesia localππ

You can find this church in the village and it is one of the few places of interest, however it is worth it! since das was built in the 16th century, it has predominantly "baroque" architecture and was rebuilt at the end of the 19th century due to the lisbon earthquake! Portugal has many beautiful churches full of stories so don't let them pass you by, try to enter the ones you can! maybe you'll come up with an interesting history of the crusades!ππ§π©
