Hello adventurous friends! Today I am super excited because I completed one of the most difficult trails in Portugal, or I would dare say the most difficult, more than 40km along the Atlantic coast, the trail: (GR11 E9 Atlantic Way) starts from Almada in Lisbon to the tip of Sesimbra which belongs to Setubal, it is a lot of material for a single post that is why I divided it into a north-south direction and the next one will be south-north, what I loved about the trail is the level of difficulty and resistance that it demands to complete it and if you do it in summer you will take your body to the limit, we will reach a maximum of 170 meters high and we will enjoy the most beautiful landscapes in Portugal, of course the beaches ... Top ...⛰️🧭🌳
Top...🚩🚵🏻♀️🗺️

A route for the bravest🧭🚩 /Una ruta para los mas valientes🌎🗺️

As a starting point I'll leave you where I started (38.413460, -9.220240) literally from the tip of Sesimbra, then it's just follow a set of paths until you reach these signs that will mark with some signs where you have to go until you reach Almada, in total 43km you have to complete the trail with very cool clothing, hat, sunscreen, leave very early and take breaks to avoid heatstroke, plenty of water I must have consumed more than 10 liters in the entire walk, boots and hiking stick are important to avoid some falls and more when you are on the cliff.🌎📸

This trail does not actually stop here and if you take a boat you can reach Lisbon and then continue your journey from there to the north of the country. There are some people who have already completed the entire trail on foot, that is, from end to end, crossing the entire country and arriving in Spain at the church of Santiago. It is a mix of landscapes, culture, gastronomy and difficulties. The landscape in this area is not impressive because it is quite repetitive but the walk is difficult because of the terrain. When we get to climb the mountain everything is more interesting because we see the beach and Lisbon in the distance. In total we will pass by about 4 beaches.📸🌎

In search of the geodesic viewpoint🧭🚩 /En busca del mirador geodésico🌎🗺️

In search of the geodesic viewpoint🧭🚩 /En busca del mirador geodésico🌎🗺️

I am walking through this small undergrowth that has the typical Mediterranean vegetation. Because it is summer there is not much humidity and we do not see the moss or lichens that decorate the landscape in winter. Now we are going to continue advancing, I would say about 4km until we go up the mountain and take a photo at the geodetic viewpoint, which is a cement wall that marks the highest point of a site.🚩🌎

It's already 11 in the morning and I think I've walked about 6 kilometres and well, little by little. I don't want to say that I'm close because there's still a long way to go. I hope to reach the tip of Sesimbra at 5:00 p.m., but it will depend on my pace. There will be moments when I have to speed up my pace and others when I have to rest for at least 5 minutes at a time. Just imagine that it's 11 o'clock and the temperature is already 28 degrees, my body feels like it's over 30 degrees. Imagine that at 2:00 p.m. I have to put on sunscreen every 5km because the sweat removes it.🚩🌎

Here I felt the extreme heat of this area when I entered the pine forest, which is like a small nature reserve because it has some native plants of the area. Since there is not much vegetation, there is plenty of sun, and well, this is where we measure our level of tolerance to the heat. I am used to it. Be very careful because almost no people pass through here, so if something happens to you, you will have to call for help, and there are areas without signals. Be very careful and respect your limits..🧭📸

We arrived at the viewpoint🧭🚩 /Llegamos al mirador🌎🗺️

We have already advanced more than 15km I would say, and we have reached the highest point of our journey, we are almost 200 meters high and the landscape of the Atlantic is incredible, another 10km and we arrive at Sesimbra, I want to show you a very strange forest that I discovered with a plant that seems to come out of a fantasy movie.🗺️🌎🚩

This was one of my favorite parts of the trail, going through this dense forest of pine trees and other bushes full of these very strange plants that look like sea sponges, that's why I named it the sponge forest. If you know what they are, leave it in the comments.🚩🌎
