Hi everyone, just got back from another epic trip.
The next few posts will be following my journey from Nashville, TN to San Francisco and Yosemite!
A friend from the UK recently married the woman of his dreams and moved to Nashville. An informal ceremony was held in botanical gardens just outside the city. It was very humid, the trees were full of two recently emerged swarms of Cicada (usually its one after the other). The sound from the males buzz/ chirp looking for a mate dominated the proceedings but added to the atmosphere. We saw them city wide whilst exploring but they are harmless to humans.
Broadway in down town Nashville is the centre of entertainment venues in the city. It is so popular it is closed to traffic on weekends. On any given day, walking around is lowkey madness.
Surprisingly, using Uber for 10 minute journeys seems to be the norm over in the US. I was happy to oblige- mainly for the heat but also safety as the location of our hotel just over a freeway.
Walking from the south west end of Broadway, a sign welcomes you and the Bridgestone arena that is home to the Panthers.
The street is home to dozens of Honky Tonk bars. There is a lot of general noise until you are level with each bar, then you can hear the music of each venue clearly before passing the next.
Along with that, road going pedal and tractor powered bars, party buses, dancing, singing, could all be everyday occurrences or possibly amplified because of memorial weekend!
Looking back south down Broadway from the north east..
A view of the river and the Nissan stadium
The next day I wandered around aimlessly taking in what the city has to offer. I passed the stadium used by the Nashville Predators basketball team, the country music hall museum, the walk of fame, finishing at the Legislative Plaza and capitol building.
Hattie B's famous hot chicken was always packed!
To the north west of the center is the Nashville State Capitol Building and plaza
Last shot is the only pic I got of a sculpture in the botanical garden...
There were a few in different animals in different poses!
Wandering around the city felt quite surreal. By that I mean that it felt like a film set as I have seen so many movies set in the US, especially with views like below. Quintessential America in my mind.
Stay tuned for another update on the next part of the trip, coming soon!
Take care everyone.
