As the title suggests, I took these photographs some months ago, when the days weren't so sunny, the COVID-19 measures were endorsed more strictly, and the usually deserted streets of small towns like Zminj, were even more empty.
This is a small town in the central part of the peninsula, about 40 kilometers from my home, and the building on this photograph is its main attraction ... I think. :) I mean, this isn't some official statement of the local Tourist board, nothing like that, is just that this church looks like the most impressive thing in town to me.
St. Michael's Church is standing on the top of the hill, in the center of Zminj.
It was built in the first third of the 17th century ...
... on the place when an older medieval church stood, as a part of large feudal Castle that was mostly destroyed. Only a small part of the thick stony walls and one tower is visible now. On this photograph you can see that tower.
Here, back on St. Michael's front facade, you can see a petrified action hero of Christian provenance.
Here is a wider look at the same angelic creature ... and on the following photograph ...
... you can see a neighboring sculpture ... which is also a cool work of art.
There is an old well not far from there, and here you can see an ornamental detail of that well.
Here you can see how it looks when you are approaching the church, walking uphill ... while on the following shot ...
... you can see how it looks when you passed the church and you are ready to continue downhill.
Here you can take a short look at one of the small side streets ... with some ordinary houses ... and roses in bloom.
This is a look at another side street ...
... with some old stairway ... that leads to the lower part of heaven ... or nowhere.
A bit further I came across this cool looking house.
Here is a look at the Elderberry that grows in front of a house on the main street ... and on the following shot ...
(Enlargeable)
... you can catch a glimpse of some tall, undefined tree covered with lovely flowers. This was photographed not far from the Elderberry, also in the center, on the way to the church.
A few hundred meters further, in a newer part of town, among some unremarkable new buildings, I saw quite a few Chestnuts, and this is a look at one of those beautiful trees.
These lovely shrubs are planted near the church.
This looks like a copy of the shot you saw a second ago, a pretty unnecessary image, you may think ... but here you can see a shrub more ... so is slightly less unnecessary as one may think ... maybe ... arguably ... who knows ... I, most certainly don't.
This shot was taken while standing under the Celtis australis, commonly known as Mediterranean hackberry tree. You can see some foliage ... cars ... doors ... windows ... and the overall COVID-19 atmosphere with no people on the street.
This lovely balcony is situated a bit further, up the same street.
This is a wider look at that tree and its surroundings.
On this amazing shot, you can surprisingly see a few people and a moving car that implies at least one more person in the scene.
Here is a nice & photogenic architectonic detail from some building near the church.
Here is another detail from some random, ordinary house ... and on the following photograph ...
... you can see yet another similar detail ... from some similar house.
And now ... with this final shot, a view at the Celtis australis tree ... and some other stuff ... is time to end this short walk through recent memory.
As always in these posts on HIVE, the photographs are my work.
