One of the key elements of a successful vacation is having a comfortable place to lay your head at night. If you are out roaming the country through the day, it is important to have an oasis you can call home to just settle in for the night and recuperate.
On our recent trip to the Hocking Hills area of Ohio, Webb Pointe was that oasis.
Every summer my wife's family gets together and we rent a house or cottages to spend some time together as a family. While we visit her sister in Columbus pretty frequently, we had never taken the hour drive south to visit the Hocking Hills area of Ohio. It was a pretty unanimous decision that this year the family trip would take place there. Especially since we had missed out on last years trip due to Covid.
Known for it's rolling hills, winding rivers and streams, caves, overhangs, and cliffs, Hocking Hills is a true hiking and nature lovers dream. This post isn't about that though. As I mentioned, this post is about Webb Pointe, the place we meticulously chose to be our base of operations for the week.
There was a massive group text within the family before we unanimously decided on Webb Pointe. Check-in was at 4:00 PM on Sunday and needless to say the facilities took our breath away. I am going to show some pictures here, but feel free to browse the promotional website I linked above for a more comprehensive tour.
Remember what I said about needing a good place to lay your head? This is where and I recovered each day while we were in Ohio. We knew right away this would be our room because we have this exact same bedding set at our home for the downstairs bedroom.
The bed was soft, the A/C worked, and the setting was peaceful.
This was the main dining area where we spent a large portion of our family time. Most evenings after dinner we could be found sitting here playing one of our new favorite games...
Across the Board Horse Racing Game
This game is seriously so addictive. Basically, you are dealt cards and then you roll the dice to determine which four horses will be out of the race. After the first four are eliminated, you continue rolling in a circle to see which horse is the winner. It is horse racing, so of course we turned it into a betting game and and I were lucky enough to come out ahead for the whole week!
This is the first impression you get of Webb Pointe when you first pull into the driveway. If you look at their site tour, you will see that what used to be the garage has been converted into a home theater room and most of the children spent the majority of their time in there!
The outdoor area was just as impressive with a large pool, an eight person hot tub, a fire pit area, a nice grilling area with a gas grill and a Blackstone flattop grill. It also had a small Tiki bar near the pool.
As beautiful as it was, I do have a few small complaints about Webb Pointe. Unless you count the outdoor area around the pool or the theater room, there were not a lot of areas in the house to just lounge around. I would have liked some more couches or something to just sit and comfortably converse with family.
Additionally, there were a lot of little "issues" here and there with the property that don't come through in the pictures. For example, the remote to the hot tub was broken so for the first two nights we weren't able to turn the jets on. The dishwasher upstairs didn't work unless you propped something against the lower panel on it. Also, many of the doors didn't shut tight unless you slammed them. I know these things probably sound trivial and in the grand scheme of things, they likely were, but given this is considered a "luxury" lodge, it did kind of leave us scratching our heads.
My wife and I have already decided we will definitely be back to Hocking Hills in the future, but next time we will likely tow our travel trailer down there and say in it at an RV park.
