If you stepped outside in Jos today and looked up, you probably noticed something unusual, the sun wrapped in a bright glowing ring, with two shining “reflections” on either side. Many people paused, stared, and wondered what on earth was happening in the sky.
Here’s the simple, science-backed explanation
What you witnessed is called a SUN HALO; a beautiful natural atmospheric phenomenon.
🔹 The glowing circular ring forms when sunlight passes through tiny ice crystals in high-altitude clouds (cirrostratus).
🔹 The two bright “extra suns” are known as SUNDOGS, colorful light spots created by the same ice crystals acting like tiny prisms.
🔹 It’s completely natural and harmless, not a solar flare, not an eclipse, and not a spiritual or mystical sign.
Fun fact: sun halos often appear before a change in weather. So there’s a good chance we could see rain or cooler conditions in the next 24–48 hours.
Nature never stops amazing us! If you snapped clearer photos or videos from your area in Jos, share them, let’s admire the sky’s artwork together.
