Near the mountain, many people live in small villages. Most are farmers who grow vegetables like cabbage, carrots, and potatoes. As we went up the mountain, we saw a lot of cabbage growing everywhere. We even saw farmers harvesting the cabbages and putting the big heads carefully into their baskets. The fields were very green and pretty, like a giant salad garden. Because of all the vegetables, people call the area the “Vegetable Basket of Cebu.” The locals are very friendly. Children sell walking sticks for about PHP 10 to PHP 50. Everyone smiles and says hello.
Getting to Osmeña Peak is fun and easy. From Cebu City, take a bus to Dalaguete or Oslob, which takes about two and a half to three hours. Tell the conductor to drop you at Mantalongon Market or the junction going to the peak. From there, ride a habal-habal motorcycle up the winding mountain road. After that, you can walk for 20–30 minutes to reach the top. The entrance fee is usually ₱150 per person. The hike is not too hard, even for beginners, and the air is very fresh.
During the hike, you can enjoy snacks like grilled skewered bananas or chocolate to give you energy. Simple food makes the hike more fun. On the way, you will also see families, kids playing, and grandmas and grandpas enjoying the cool breeze.
When you reach the top, the view is amazing. You can see hills rolling like waves, the towns below, and the blue sea shining in the sunlight. The wind feels nice on your face, and the mountain makes you feel happy, brave, and thankful.
Osmeña Peak is more than a mountain. It is a place to enjoy nature, meet kind people, walk with friends, and feel happy. Whether you go with family, friends, or alone, it welcomes you with open arms. Here, we feel brave, happy, and thankful like we can reach any dream we want.
