Today, I'm going to bring back memories of a couple of years ago, on a Sunday morning in Palma de Mallorca in Spain.
A couple of years ago, I travel with my family to Spain to spend the Christmas holidays with my sister in law who lives in Galicia. And while there, my cousin who lives in Port D'Andraxt on the island of Mallorca sent me a plane ticket to visit her for a couple of days. We had been several years without seeing each other, so it was a short but very happy gathering.
I arrived in Palma very early on a Sunday morning. And before heading to Port D'Andraxt, my cousin took me for a walk in Palma. So I invite you to join me on the quick tour I had.
We stopped the car in a parking lot very close to Passeig Des Born.
This avenue with a large pedestrian promenade is the most exclusive street in the city. It's full of luxury brand stores, cafes, and restaurants. Being Sunday. the stores were closed and most of the cafes hadn't yet opened when we were there.
We walked by the nearby streets. And we even stopped by a grocery store to buy some things to eat later.
Some of the buildings reminded me of Barcelona.
Then we went to the area of the bay of Palma to visit the Cathedral.
We visited the gardens of S'Hort del Rei. These gardens are at the foot of the royal palace. With many fountains and some sculptures.
Among the sculptures, the "Es Foner" stands out, which means the slinger. It represents a man from the first civilization that inhabited the island of Mallorca, the Talaiotic who used the sling as a defense weapon against pirates.
From the gardens, we can see the royal palace.
The Almudaina Palace is the summer residence of the Spanish Royal Family.
Also from there, you have views of the artificial lake of Parc de la Mar.
Right next to the Almudaina is the Cathedral of Santa María, known as «La Seu». It's the most emblematic building in the city, on the shore of the bay of Palma, and can be seen from almost the entire city. It's a church in the Gothic style.
As it was very early when we were there, it wasn't open and I couldn't visit it inside. Something that caught my attention is that the front facade is very difficult to photograph because it's very close to one of the palace walls.
Then we went down the steps towards Parc de la Mar for a short walk.
The Parc de la Mar is an urban park that was built in the 70s when the highway that passes near the coast was built. In the past, the sea reached the city walls that surround the cathedral.
The park is between the highway and the walls and includes aside from some green areas a large artificial lake of salt water, to symbolize the sea that in the past reached the walls.
We walked for a while and took some photos of the views from the lake towards the city walls.
Then we went to look for the car in the parking lot to go towards Port D'Andraxt, where my cousin lives. And that it is about half an hour from the city by car.
It was a short and quick tour, but without a doubt, the walk and the glance at Palma left me with a pleasant impression of the city and wanting to visit it again in the future to explore it in depth.

Hola Hivers y gente maravillosa de la comunidad de Haveyoubeenhere. Feliz domingo a todos desde mi lado del mundo.
Hoy voy a traer recuerdos de hace un par de años, un domingo por la mañana en Palma de Mallorca en España.
Hace un par de años, viajé con mi familia a España para pasar las vacaciones de Navidad con mi cuñada que vive en Galicia. Y estando allí, mi prima que vive en Port D'Andraxt en la isla de Mallorca me envió un billete de avión para visitarla un par de días. Llevábamos varios años sin vernos, así que fue una reunión corta pero muy feliz.
Llegué a Palma muy temprano un domingo por la mañana. Y antes de dirigirme a Port D'Andraxt, mi prima me llevó a dar un paseo por Palma. Así que los invito a unirse a mí en el recorrido rápido que hice.
Paramos el coche en un aparcamiento muy cerca del Passeig Des Born.
Esta avenida con un gran paseo peatonal es la calle más exclusiva de la ciudad. Está llena de tiendas de marcas de lujo, cafés y restaurantes. Siendo domingo. las tiendas estaban cerradas y la mayoría de los cafés aún no habían abierto cuando estuvimos allí.
Caminamos por las calles cercanas. E incluso pasamos por una tienda de comestibles para comprar algunas cosas para comer después.
Algunos de los edificios me recordaron a Barcelona.
Luego nos dirigimos a la zona de la bahía de Palma para visitar la Catedral.
Visitamos los jardines de S'Hort del Rei. Estos jardines están a los pies del palacio real. Con muchas fuentes y algunas esculturas
Entre las esculturas destaca "Es Foner", que significa el hondero. Representa a un hombre de la primera civilización que habitó la isla de Mallorca, los talayóticos que utilizaban la honda como arma de defensa contra los piratas.
Desde los jardines podemos ver el palacio real.
El Palacio de la Almudaina, es la residencia de verano de la Familia Real Española.
También desde allí hay vistas al lago artificial del Parc de la Mar.
Justo al lado de la Almudaina se encuentra la Catedral de Santa María, conocida como «La Seu». Es el edificio más emblemático de la ciudad, a orillas de la bahía de Palma y se puede ver desde casi toda la ciudad. Es una iglesia de estilo gótico.
Como era muy temprano cuando estuvimos allí, no estaba abierta y no pude visitarla por dentro. Algo que me llamó la atención es que la fachada principal es muy difícil de fotografiar porque está muy cerca de uno de los muros del palacio.
Luego bajamos las escalinatas hacia el Parc de la Mar para dar un corto paseo.
El Parc de la Mar es un parque urbano que se construyó en los años 70 cuando construyeron la carretera que pasa cerca de la costa. En el pasado, el mar llegaba hasta las murallas de la ciudad que rodean la catedral.
El parque se encuentra entre la carretera y las murallas e incluye además de algunas áreas verdes un gran lago artificial de agua salada, para simbolizar el mar que en el pasado llegaba hasta las murallas.
Caminamos un rato y tomamos algunas fotos de las vistas desde el lago hacia los murallas de la ciudad.
Luego fuimos a buscar el auto en el estacionamiento para dirigirnos hacia Port D'Andraxt, donde vive mi prima. Y está a media hora de la ciudad en carro.
Fue un recorrido corto y rápido, pero sin duda, el paseo y la mirada a Palma me dejaron una grata impresión de la ciudad y con ganas de volver a visitarla en un futuro para conocerla en profundidad.
