Hello Hive community!
How are you doing? I am well, but tired. Waking up at 3 am to watch NBA games is not the best idea, at least if you are doing that every other night and especially if your team is losing :)
You probably know me by now, that I am talking about Luka Dončič and his Dallas Mavericks team. Unfortunately current result is 3-0 in series and today Golden State can sweep them on vacation. I think that will be Anyway Dallas’s game and they will upset the Warriors in Game 5 in San Francisco as well, but after that I am not seeing how could they pull an upset all the way to the end. Anyway Dončič has plenty of time and I am looking forward watching him and cheering for Dallas or any other team he will play in in years to come, but I am not looking forward to waking up in the middle of the night and then continuing straight to work. I almost fell asleep yesterday at work, so I started writing my travel post and that hold me upright :)
Before closing my sports intro, I have to say I am really looking forward towards some FIBA basketball as well. This year is European championship where Slovenia is defending its tittle won in 2017 when Dončič was teenager. Can you imagine what will he be doing this year?
Why sports intro? As this travel post is also connected with sport, basketball, NBA, Dallas, Dončič… Not only this post but whole travel series is.
As you already know I travelled in Texas in early March to watch three home games of Dallas and to travel around the state a bit. And day 4 was time for travelling. No match this day, so we took advantage of some “spare time” and hit the road to Houston! I would never say that Houston is actually bigger than Dallas and San Antonio is too. Both three cities are among top 10 in US followed with two other, Austin and Fort Worth which are easy among top 15 as well. Why did we decide to visit Houston? Mainly due to rodeo show… Another one, but this one was different kind of event from the first day. Both were interesting. With first at Cowtown Colosseum you were close to all the action and was great photography opportunity, while the one in Houston was really big event, probably biggest I have ever been to. How many people and how big of an area is NRG stadium with vicinity. Simply breath-taking. Houston rodeo appears to be the biggest, rodeo show on the World and it goes on for about a month. If there is that many people every day, I am impressed even more.
On the day of our visit the main performer after the rodeo was Ricky Marin. Not that I am fan of, but I have heard about him already… It was interesting how little people were inside on their seats at the start of the whole event with national anthem ceremony and first rodeo games and how you almost couldn’t find empty seat when Ricky came on stage late evening. But that is the way it is… Performance was spectacular. I really liked moving stage and all the light work and firework as well. Quite a show, I have to admit that. You in USA know how to do that in comparison to Europe. That was also the day, when my legs hurt the most. I already wrote how huge that thing was and we were walking to it from our motel nearby, but all together it add on and we were really tired at the end.
I have to mention, that today there won’t be that many photos, since I didn’t have my camera with me on the rodeo show and even if I could bring it, there was not that many photography opportunities. It was more of an event to attend. Anyway we did few click when we were bicycling through Houston’s downtown. There is a nice park for relaxing or recreation. We drove through it and all the way between the skyscrapers. There way only one thing that really impressed me and that was food! Pinkertons was the restaurant in town, but now in strict centre. That is the best food I ate. I could add ever and wouldn’t miss much. How good was that. They have a special system where you are ordering meat by pounds and the chop it in front of you, ready to eat. But they really know what they are doing. Jummy! Pinkertons exists in San Antonio as well. Unfortunately, we couldn’t make it to revisit in San Antonio as we arrived too late, but hey that was so good. In Europe, everyone is talking how food is so bad in US, but hey this BBQ is just awesome. I can’t think of a place in Europe, where I could eat food like that. It sure depends on taste a bit as well and you can not eat BBQ all month long, but still during my travel that was like a food haven.
So let me finish just here, with food. Not a single word more :=)
That is Pinkertons
