Hi there my dear Hive friends,
How are you doing? All good?
Weekend is behind us and it is time for cyber Monday? What will you buy today? I just reserved my first holiday for 2022 yesterday. At the end of April, we will go to Croatian coast, near Poreč. This time we decided to go to a hotel or better say small resort and we will have all inclusive, so that will be pure relaxation. I can see myself adding few kilos in this couple of days there…
That will be only my second stay in an all inclusive resort. I have only been to Cyprus once and I have to admit it is not bad. My wish is to go into Caribbean region onto that kind of vacation. I was looking at Mexico before couple of years and also some of the islands, but never really made a decision. The hotel I booked for my next year “spring break” is nothing special 4 stars property, but I believe I made a good decision and it is good value for money with being early season and special Black Friday deal.
This stay will be a lot different from my classic tourist farm stays in the past years. I shared a lot of these tourist farms together with trips, sights and activities which I did around there in the past, but I have one more to share. That is Tourist Farm Šeruge, where we didn’t actually stay, but my parents did and we went there on a one day visit. Šeruga is a family name and it is owned by the borther of well known Slovenian Zvone Šeruga, who is the most known traveller in Slovenia. He is a specialist for African continent and had a big impact on the life there as well.
So we went on a trip to Tourist Farm Šeruga this summer, I think it was some beautiful Sunday in August. It is located in Dolejnska region, from where I didn’t shared much in my Tour de Slovenia series yet as I prefer other places / regions in Slovenia, but to be hones maybe I am underestimating Dolenjska a bit as I am sure it has a lot to offer as well. Especially with sub-region Bela Krajina and river Kolpa. It is about an hour drive to Novo mesto and Šeruga farm is close to that city which is the biggest in the region. You have some amazing cycling routes from there and that was the main reason why my parents stayed there. At the end it turned to be much, much more than just good starting point for cycling. The farm itself is very beautiful, located in the middle of the woods with small creek running by. Creek is not only beautiful to look at, but it is also super useful for fish farming. There is really a lot of nature and some domestic animals like cattle and hens. They also had a very playful dog. I need to expose their food as well as it was amazing! And not only the quality which involved only the local ingredients, but also the quality. Beside main dish you get about five side dishes. Food there would be my main reason to come back :)
Maybe I am a bit unfair to the people there as they are also one aspect, I can only say the best of; very polite, positive minded, just as they need to be for working at such place.
Not to be only talking about food and tourist farm, I will add few more words and photos at the end about the place where we stopped for a short walk. We stopped at Grad Otočec and grad means castle in our language. It is not the biggest and most attractive castle, but it is standing on a beautiful location, actually on the island. Today it serves as a fancy hotel with restaurant and I could see it being a fancy castle back in the days of 12th century when it was build. It has also a beautiful and well kept park by it which was probably created somewhere around 1800. We didn’t visit inside of the castle and just went on a walk through park where you can spot a lot of different bird species and if you look in the water there is living more than 50 fish species as well. This place is a landmark in Slovenia on which we are very proud.
My wish is to have a drone and to photography it in a perfect conditions one day, as the photography potential of this one is enormous. When I visited it, I had just my smartphone with me, so I did a few clicks, but perspective from the air would be much nicer.
Let that be it for today’s post in Haveyoubeenhere community and I am sure we will see each other soon again!
Have a great Monday!
