A few days ago we were talking with some friends about the neighborhood of San Isidro. A place I thought I knew very well, but to walk its streets is not to know its history. I remembered an old museum, a house belonging to a prominent family of the time. But I had never been inside. According to the website it is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1pm to 6pm. So I took the train and went there. It's about 7 blocks from the San Isidro station. A street of cobblestones with little traffic and thick trees.

Hace unos días hablábamos con unos amigos sobre el barrio de San Isidro. Lugar que pensé que conocía muy bien, pero recorrer sus calles no es conocer su historia. Recordaba un viejo museo, una casa perteneciente a una familia prominente de la época. Pero nunca había entrado. Según el sitio web abre los martes y los jueves desde las 13 hasta las 18hs. The front and entrance are simple, but the interior is stunningly beautiful. Past the front counter is the main courtyard of the house. The structure is the classic colonial house structure, a lung and surrounding rooms and facilities. The floor is beautiful and excellently preserved. In the center, an old tiled water well with iron structure and details.

From the center one can move to the rooms. I was not expecting such a complete exhibition, from the inside it looked like a cramped place but its interior was full of details. One room had a screen and old maps of the area displayed. They not only talked about the family but also the history of the neighborhood. Posters with street names, school coats of arms and on the screen data about the founding of the neighbord.

Desde el centro uno puede desplazarse a los cuartos. No esperaba una exposición tan completa, desde adentro parecía un lugar reducido pero su interior estaba repleto de detalles. Una sala tenía una pantalla y mapas antiguos de la zona desplegados. No solo se habla de la familia sino que también de la historia del barrio. Carteles con nombres de las calles, escudos de la escuela y en la pantalla datos sobre la fundación del partido.

The Bedroom
The last room I came across was undoubtedly the most beautiful of the tour. The bedroom with the original furniture of the house. Even the smallest detail was a delight, all beautifully ornamented and decorated. The upholstery and woodwork, the small altar for prayer, the bed and the closet. It looked like a place frozen in another time.

El último cuarto con el que me tope fue sin dudas el más bello del recorrido. La alcoba con el mobiliario original de la casa. Hasta el más mínimo detalle era un deleite, todo bellamente ornamentado y decorado. El trabajo del tapizado y la madera, el pequeño altar para rezar, la cama y el ropero. Parecía un lugar congelado en otro tiempo.
I thought that was it, so I walked through those antique double windows and went outside. That quinta never ceased to amaze me. The courtyard was not only immense, but it ended up looking down on the rest of the neighborhood. It was a huge gazebo, full of trees and a beautifully manicured lawn. I had brought my mate with me so I laid down to rest and have some mate and meditate some things in the silence of the place.

Pensé que eso era todo, así que atravesé esos ventanales dobles antiguos y salí al exterior. Esa quinta no paraba de sorprenderme. El patio era no solo inmenso, sino que terminaba mirando el resto del barrio desde las alturas. Era un inmenso mirador, lleno de árboles y con un césped muy bien cuidado. Había llevado el mate así que me recosté a descansar y tomar unos matecitos y meditar algunas cosas en el silencio del lugar.
