Last weekend, I visited Bodrum for a day trip with my meter reading (colleagues) friends. I just started my new job and I haven't even received a salary as I haven't completed 1 month yet.
The trip was organised by our supervisor to allow new recruits like me to mingle with old recruits and I must admit that Bodrum was not our first choice.
We initially preferred Didim, but the city and beaches were almost 100% full due to the weekend. So we chose Akbuk as the second choice. It was a smaller and quieter place than Didim, but the view was the same there.
We turned our route to Bodrum with the idea that we would not swim at most and visit the city. Bodrum is one of the most important districts not only in Turkey but also in the world in terms of tourism.
The ancient name of Bodrum is Halicarnassos. Bodrum Castle was built by Christian Paladins in the 15th century. Bodrum castle also serves as the world's second largest underwater archaeological museum. source
The first thing we did after reaching the city was to go up to the hill where there are historical windmills called the mill hill.
We watched the view of Bodrum from here. Almost the whole city was under our feet.
All the stone-built houses in the city are painted white and have blue windows. The reason why the houses are painted white is to prevent the heat outside from penetrating into the houses and to keep the houses cool. It is also said that the reason why the windows are painted blue is to prevent snakes, scorpions and similar pests from entering the houses. This tradition of many years ago is being continued.
Since the occupancy on the beaches was more intense, we did not approach and just watched the view from a bird's eye view. Everyone is enjoying their holiday and enjoying their own holiday to the fullest.
For a while we watched people parasailing in the sea. Their screams were reaching us and it looked a bit scary but very fun.
Bodrum is a very beautiful and ideal city for a holiday, but it is not so simple to come for a day because we could only watch many places to visit from afar.
The longer the holiday, the more you can enjoy the historical sites and the warm beaches in the city. I can't say it was a perfect trip because we just watched it. In a place where food is made and served; it was like smelling all the food but not tasting any of it. lololol
Fortunately I am only 3 hours away from Bodrum and I will have the chance to come back again. This time I will come for a longer time and I will definitely enjoy the city in more detail!
There are dozens of love songs written for Bodrum and there is a belief that love is lived differently in Bodrum.
