Hello friends
The girl from the Central Highlands is here to share with you one of the most famous tourist attractions in Daklak - Da Voi Mountain, the largest monolith in Vietnam. As a travel lover, of course I cannot ignore this interesting place right in my hometown. I spent a day there visiting and taking some beautiful pictures that I will be happy to share with you.
Where is it?
Couple Rock Elephant Father and Rock Elephant Mother Located about 40km from Buon Ma Thuot city center along Highway 27 - in the territory of Yang Tao commune - Lak district - Dak Lak province. It took me about 1 hour 30 minutes by motorbike from the city center in the direction to Lam Dong Province to get there. When I arrived in Lak district, a large rock that people still call Mother Elephant Rock lying in the middle of the field gradually appeared in front of my eyes. My emotions at that time were overwhelmed because I have never seen such a big rock :v. And about 5km away is Father Elephant Rock.
It stands tall between heaven and earth, bearing the beauty of the wild majesty of the Central Highlands. This is not just a check-in place, but it also contains many mysterious stories that stimulated the curiosity of a girl who is passionate about discovering the beauty of nature like me.
Rock Elephant Yang-Tao
Yang-Tao Elephant Rock is actually a rock named Elephant Rock because of its strange shape and great size, like an elephant lying quietly in the middle of the mountains. These are the two largest monolithic stones in Vietnam.
Yang-Tao Elephant Rock is granite. It has a length of about 200m, a circumference of about 500m and a height of more than 30m. The Father Elephant Rock is smaller in size with a length of about 70m and a circumference of about 180m. The Mother Elephant Rock is located at the foot of the mountain range of Chu Yang Sin National Park. And the Father Elephant Rock is about 5km away, in the middle of a field.
To get to the top, you need to climb along the spine of the rock. Climbing to the top of Mother Elephant Rock is not difficult, but you have to be very careful because on the rock there are very few places to cling. On strong wind days, climbing to the top of the Mother Elephant Rock is quite risky because the climber can be swept off the cliff by the wind. When I started climbing, I found it quite slippery and steep, it took me about 15 minutes to climb to the top.
Even so, my hard work has paid off. From above I can easily admire the majestic view of this place. The rock is surrounded by endless green forests. From the top of the Mother Elephant Rock, I can observe many scenic spots in the region such as: Yang Reh Lake and Chu Yang Sin mountain range - the roof of the Central Highlands.
I went in the afternoon for the purpose of watching the sunset here and I was completely satisfied. I have to say this is one of the most beautiful sunset spots I have ever seen. The big and red sun gradually descends the mountain, the sky is dyed a beautiful red, making this place even more mysterious.
The Mysterious Story of the "Walking Rock"
Famous for its legend as the βwalking rockβ, the locals do not know exactly when the Elephant Rock originated. They had only heard from their ancestors about the mysterious movement of these two rocks. They have been seen in a different location before and until now there is no explanation for the strange displacement.
According to the local M'Nong people, the Mother Elephant Rock and the Father Elenphant Rock were not originally next to each other as they are now. But after many self-shifting, Mother Elephant Rock approached the foot of the mountain. The Father Elephant Rock was originally in the North near Lak Lake, but after only one night, it was found lying in the middle of a vast rice field, next to which there are two long ditches believed to be the path of the rock. . It is believed that these two rocks are moving towards each other.
It isn't just that mysterious story
In addition to the legend of walking, the Elephant Rock is also famous for the legend of the "god of love". The two rocks are associated with the ancient custom of capturing wives of the M' Nong people. According to legend, the rock was originally small and soft like a puddle of mud. Children often jump on it to play. Suddenly, one day, the rock hardened, changed from liquid to solid and wrapped the most beautiful 17-year-old girl in its lap.
People tried to pull the girl out for 7 days and 7 nights, but there was no way to get her out. But after that night, her family dreamed that she was living happily with the rock god Yang-Tao, and she told that the rock god would bless everyone. Therefore, people here always believe that this pair of Elephant Rocks is the god of love for couples in love and for singles to find their other half.
Couples often date on the back of the Elephant Rock to exchange love and pray for the rock god to protect their love. Single people also often come to tell the rock god about their story and believe that the rock god will understand and help them find their "half".
By what means can elephant rock be discovered?
You can easily move to the center of Buon Ma Thuot City from major cities of Vietnam by catching a plane or coach. From there you can visit the Elephant Rock by taxi or motorbike. I prefer to travel around by motorbike, because I can stop anytime I want to admire other places.
If you have the opportunity to come to Vietnam, visit this sunny and windy Central Highlands - Daklak and do not miss this interesting tourist destination. You will have a great trip for sure.
Hope this post brings you joy, thanks for reading.
