The Casa delle Farfalle (Butterfly Arc) is located in Abano Terme, a famous thermal resort, and is one of the city's most popular attractions. It consists of a couple of indoor tropical gardens (clearly enclosed) where you can closely observe hundreds of exotic butterflies flying freely around you, with no restrictions or nets, so much so that it’s common for them to land on you.
The place is also designed to offer an educational experience, which is why it is open to schools for field trips, showing all the stages of the butterfly life cycle: larvae, chrysalises, and adult specimens.
The environment is rich in tropical plants, which help create an ideal habitat for these insects. The climate is also tropical, so it is extremely humid and warm. To feed the butterflies, there are not only flowers, but also pieces of fruit such as bananas and oranges placed in special raised fake flowers with a sort of platform.
Over the years, in addition to the butterflies, fish, turtles, and other insects have been added, though these are kept in special display cases.
The visit is certainly interesting, not too long, but worth going at least once.
