I took the photos in this post at the Conowingo Dam area which also includes Fisherman's Park and the Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway Trail in Harford County, Maryland approximately a month ago.
I've mentioned previously that people come from all over to photograph the Bald Eagles here. On this visit I snagged a photo of just one of the groups of photographers near the Conowingo Dam. There are some pretty expensive looking cameras and lenses that I saw but some people also come with cameras like mine in the hopes of just possibly getting an okay photo of the Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herons and other wildlife or scenery.
This group was waiting on a Bald Eagle to fly over the water and when one person would spot the Eagle fly over he would yell out and they would all rush to their cameras. In this area you can also spot a Bald Eagle up on a transmission tower where there is also a nest.
This is the best photo I could get with my best camera from where I was standing directly across from the tower on the other side of the Conowingo Dam. Possibly, if I had a more steady hand then I could have zoomed in just a little closer but I'm not unhappy at all with the photo I did get. I rarely get a chance at one flying .. lol.
We stayed at this spot for a little while and then my husband and I decided to walk along the Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway Trail where we sometimes spot a Bald Eagle or two up in the trees.
Besides that, it is a nice trail to capture other scenery and such.
The water views are spotty due to some overgrowth but such is nature sometimes.
The water level was low but I've been previously where it was so low that one could walk almost out to the middle of the water without getting your feet wet. That was low!
While on the trail I try to look for anything that I find interesting to photograph other than just wildlife. I spotted these vibrant red berries with a nice tree as a backdrop. It captured my attention the way the sunlight was shining on it.
This leaf with holes in it where I could see through to the other side. Probably, no one else would've noticed such a trivial thing.
I also have a fascination with grass tassels. I'm sure they have a botanical name but they are just grass tassels to me. I think they are pretty and I love the way they dance in a slight breeze or are still with no breeze at all. This one had a spider web intertwined in it and it reminded me of tinsel as it twinkled in the sunlight.
Before long I had to make the call to turn around and head back to where we parked. It was a slow walk back but it was nice just to look around and notice little things or listen to the rustling leaves that were beginning to fall. I also stopped to watch and listen to the swirling water.
We also got to see a Bald Eagle on the way back. I've shown this Bald Eagle before but this is a different shot of him. For me, a visit is always extra special when I get to see a Bald Eagle or Great Blue Heron even if I'm not able to get a photo of one! Sometimes we hear them but can't find them in the trees but we eventually spotted this one and I was able to get a few photos of him. All in all, it was an enjoyable visit that I'm happy to be able to share here with you! 💖
