It had been a year since we visited our family in The Netherlands for the last time. We didn't go to the celebration of the 80th birthday of my father-in-law, we missed first steps of our nephew and we didn't get to see our niece becoming a big girl with a big mouth which loves to say no all the time 🙂
I've been longing to see them for so long that a few weeks ago we decided to go there from one day to another. And let me tell you that it was a great decision. We had such a good time, and thinking about these kids still makes me smile. We spent all the time outside, playing with the kids, talking about latest changes in our lives and simply spending some much needed quality time with our family.
You can't do many trips in two days, but we managed to go to the favorite place of our niece, so that she could show us the lake and some animals living next to it. I like to share some memories from this day with you.
It was a glorious sunny day, one of the last ones this year and we wanted to make the most out of it, so we rented bikes, prepared our picnic baskets and off we went. It took us about 30 minutes to get there, our little niece biking on her own too! What a tough cookie!
When we arrived, our niece ran directly to the ducks. Honestly, they were not as excited as she was and didn't pay her any attention. She kept talking to them until they got fed up and walked away.
She was a bit disappointed but quickly recovered her mood as there were other animals waiting for us on the other side of the lake. We convinced her to leave the ducks alone and continue walking.
I enjoyed the scenery during our short walk. Everything was still green and fresh even though it was end of August. While walking I was trying to ignore our niece who kept talking and talking and talking, but I was not so successful 🙂 At least I learned from her that right there in that little barn lived those animals that we were about to visit.
But before going to see them, let me show you a bit more of that charming lake and its surroundings.
And here we go! I was a proud auntie to see that our 3 years old niece was able to name all the animals. She still struggles with some colors though.
We only had to explain to her why that chicken was 'hidden' in that hole - these were her exact words. And then she thought that the turkey was the father of the chicks. You have to love kids!
Personally, I enjoyed goats much more. I must admit that they didn't pay any attention to me at all, and ignored all my callings but at least they were the perfect models, standing there and not moving for a several minutes. Look how pretty they are!
What I found fascinating were the trees there. They were all gigantic! You can't really see it on a picture but imagine that almost half of the tree didn't even fit on the screen!
One of the goats decided to give us a chance before we left and came closer to us. I was so excited! It was tiny and so pretty. It started to jump around, quite an actor!
I usually don't post any family photos but I will share one of them with you today. You can see that we don't need much to have a lot of fun. One box where we all fit in is enough for us to keep us occupied all afternoon 🙂
I hope, you enjoyed our family day!
Thank you for reading!
Cheers,
Martina
