Palinuro ☀️⛵| Discovering an amazing part of Cilento's coast
Hello Hivers, today i would love to share with you another amazing place i had the chance to visit this year: Palinuro. It is a seaside village in Cilento, whose name is legendarily linked to a character of the Aeneid, the mythical Palinuro, helmsman of Aeneas's fleet.
It is a magical place with a wonderful sea and hills in all the sourrandings
Day 1
We start the trip from Bologna and we went down by car. The way down is a bit long, around 8 hours, but then we were free to move around easily.
We arrived at the Bed and Breakfast "L'antico portone" that is in the city center. The owner and his father they welcomed us in a really warm manner, typical of the south of Italy. The place is really nice and it had just open so it was completely new. Antonia and his brother renovated their granparents house giving birth to this beautiful B&B.
We were tired but we decided to visit the first famous beach of Palinuro: Spiaggia delle saline
It is a beautiful beach with crystalline water. It is really long and especially in august a bit crowed but the view of the sea it is really rewarding.
The tiredness for the trip was overwhelming us so we decide to go back to the B&B and rest a bit.
We took a nap before going out and when we got up the sunset was amazing
Day 2
The morning of the next day we decide to return to Le saline just to enjoy and relax a bit more.
In the afternoon we went for another famous and beatiful beach: La spiaggia della Ficocella
The place is really small and you have to go there in strategic hour if you want to find a spot on the rock. It a beatiful place for snorkeling because after the bay there is an open space with rocks all over and you can admire a lot of different fishes and sometimes also moray eels.
The went back to the B&B soon because that night the owner of the place organized for us and the other guests a Lamparata in Marina di Camerota, a place 20 minutes far from palinuro.
It is an excursion on a fishing boat in the company of professional fishermen to live an experience in direct contact with nature and the world of fishing.
Lamparata is an ancient fishing technique that involves the lighting of a large lamp, la Lampara, mounted at the stern of a gozzo which, with the light generated, attracts the fish. At the same time another boat (la Cenciola) drops a purse seine in which the fish are caught. The experience continues on a beach where all the catch will be cheerfully prepared. Unfortunatelly, the place were we eat dinner was so dark, enlighted only by same artificial lamps and was very difficult to take photos. But it was really an amazing experience in contact with nature and with traditions.
Day 3
Was really difficult to get up since the night before we went to sleep really late. So we decided to go back to our belowed Ficocella and spend the day there. We had the chance to meet a beautiful couple from Turin. Very friendly and funny, so much that we decide to have dinner and drinks together.
Day 4
We get up early since the schedule of the day included the boat trip to
Capo Palinuro to see the famous Grotta Azzura
It is the largest and best known cavity of the whole complex of caves hosted by Capo Palinuro.
We took a boat from a camping near the port and the trip started
After 10 minuts of trip, in which we had the chance to swim in a really blu sea, we finally arrive to the Grotta
The cave opens on the northern side of Punta della Quaglia, with a triangular entrance 6 meters high and 10 meters wide. It owes its name and its charm to the spectacular effect produced by the blue which, apparently coming from the seabed, illuminates the whole environment making it unreal and suggestive. In reality, this particular effect occurs thanks to the sunlight coming from an underwater siphon that emerges from the bottom of the cave on the opposite side of the tip of the Quaglia. The Blue Grotto is also characterized by the presence of sulphurous hydrothermal springs; there are also numerous limestone stalactites and stalagmites.
After the trip we went back to the camping beach and we relaxed the afternoon there.
Last day
A part from the sadness of the last day of vacation, we decided to go where the other guest of the B&B suggested us.
It is the beach of the port, so normally not so attractive but we remained astonished by its beauty
We basically spent all day in the water, snorkeling and chilling in the crystalline blue water.
Since was our last day there we decide to have an happy hour on the boat, in order to admire the sunset from another prospective. It was another organized activity (one of the many) that the local people offer to turist in order to let them leave with great memories
They took you from the port with a boat and all the supplies for the happy hour (food and wine) in a intim spot behind the promontory and i think the phots will speak for me
Unfortunatelly, also this amazing trip discovering the Cilento's coast came to an end, but i'm really greatful this year i had the opportunity to discover more my country and all its beauties.
