If you ever visit Kuala Lumpur or KL as it is known to almost everyone. One of the high spots on your list must be the the iconic landmark of the Petronas Twin Towers home of the national oil company of Malaysia.
Unfortunately for me I failed on a number off occasions, too little time, all the tours being booked, the towers closed to visitors. Everything seemed to conspire against me. So you can imagine how glad I was to finally visit them last year. I was not disappointed they really are spectacular.
Even walking round the KLCC Park near the towers you can't fail to be taken by their splendour of fail to notice the photographers taking advantage of the location
or the odd fool taking selfies.
Booking a tour of the towers isn't difficult or expensive, but it is worth remembering they are closed on Mondays, most day other days they were open from 9am to 9pm and on Friday there is a restriction around lunch time, but I understand these times have been reduced due to Covid so best check when you book. Bookings can be made online, probably the best way, or in the Petronas Tower but it's unlikely that you will be able do a tour as a walk in as they are normally booked well in advance. The cost for an adult is about $30US, $15 if your a Malaysian passport holder. There is also a senior citizen discount, Oh the joys of getting old. It's best to give yourself an hour or so you will not be rushed.
The tour starts on the Concourse Level, you need to go down before you can go up, remember your ticket and your passport as you will have to present these to security. The advise is to turn up at least 15 minutes before your tour but it's not a problem as there is plenty to see while waiting for the group to assemble, the groups aren't too large, 20 to 30 max, you all need to get in the lift and you do have a guide, ours was both knowledgeable and amusing. The first ride in the lift takes you up to the 41st floor and the Sky Bridge 170m up so even from here the views are amazing and we're not even half way up. This is the only really time limited part of the tour and you get about 15 minutes which is more than enough time really it's all about the views and there are more to come.
The next set of lifts will take you up the 83rd floor then its a short trip in the third lift to the Observation Deck on the 86th floor at 370m here you will have plenty of time for photos, gift shop, models of the Towers. Some presentations on the history of the Towers. There are floor to ceiling windows all round this level and a 360deg view of the city even the KLCC Park so you can work out where the first photo was taken.
If there is another group there is plenty of room and windows to take in the sights, people tend to move around so don't be discouraged you will have plenty of chance to get to a good vantage point for photos. It's normal to spend about 30 minutes here which is plenty of time for that killer selfie. After the tour it's a ride back down the lifts to the Concourse Level and a quick trip to the gift shop before going to the Suria KLCC Mall for a well earned coffee.
Well Hivers I hope you enjoyed the tour as much as me. Would I go back? certainly I'd like to do one of the after dark tours next time and get some night time photos of the City.
