Overlooking the harbor in Torquay, up until mid-2020.
The Living Coasts zoo was one of the bay's more interesting attractions. A large open-air aviary and habitat tanks.
Were home to various species of penguins,
Cape fur seals
And fish. Sorry, this was the best I could do it was a bit dark, and no flash with the fish.
Owned by the same group that has Paignton and Newquay Zoo I fell foul of the covid closures and never reopened after it was shut in March 2020 with the Government’s Covid restrictions.
Today the Living Coasts still remain closed.
Which is surprising for such a prime location in Torquay.
Mind you it’s not the first business in that area when I moved to Torquay about 50 years ago it was the Marine Spa and swimming pool the 4 arches at the end of the breakwater are all that remain from the old building. Then it became part of the Coral Island leisure complex and finally the Living coasts about 20 years ago.
One bit of good news with the closures was despite fears that some of the animals would be put down homes were found for them all in various zoos and collections which was lucky for these chaps.
