This year I finally got to see autumn in Nikko, Japan. It has always been a dream of mine. Though it isn't far from me, I just didn't have the opportunity or time to go until now. I bunch of us went to an onsen hotel and stayed the night. But for me, the real trip began when we got outdoors as I have taken up photography as a hobby.
Right outside of our hotel, there was a long bridge that led to a hiking trail up the hills. But we didn't get that far as we were travelling with many young children. But we all managed to enjoy crossing this classic structure and taking in the awesome view of the river and hills that surrounded it.
The bridge wobbled as we went across it, but if you know anything about engineering, that is a good thing. Many of the boneheads in our group took the opportunity to scare the crap out of everyone by rocking the bridge from side to side. Of course the thought came to mind, what if the bridge collapsed? But to not get on and experience the view would be a sin, so on we went.

The first thing we saw was canoes drifting down the river, full of patrons enjoying the scenery. I definitely prefer this type of attraction over Disney's tower of terror any day. This is the second time I have scene such boats drifting down the river for the month, so it seems to be a regular attraction. One that I am yet to take. This side of the bridge had more rock/stone structures.
Here is the hotel we stayed at, sitting on the hill overlooking the river. unfortunately, the river is not visible from the rooms as it it a little distance back and rightfully so. When viewing the hotel on the net, it kinda gives you the impression that you can see the river.
On the other side of the bridge, it had more foliage just getting the hints of autumn colors. I can imagine a week from now there will be no green in sight, just the bright colors that attract thousands of visitors each year.
This Oni ( devil) statue was at the start of the hiking trail, but he isn't really a devil or bad. People leave money at his feet and on his head for good fortune. Not so devilish right? Oh, these two? They are a new couple and it was the first time the dude was around the entire crew. But we all kind of knew him already and he is an acquaintance of a good friend of mine. I hope they left some coins at the Oni's feet so their relationship can have good fortune 😁.
I hope you enjoyed the photos. Blessings! Stay tuned for part II.
