Hello travel enthusiasts, how are you today?
I firmly believe that each of us has a trip that we never forget. As a person who loves to explore new lands, I also have trips like that. And today I want to introduce to you one of them. It was a trip to conquer the legendary Langbiang peak 2167m above sea level in Lac Duong district, Lam Dong province.
First, let me introduce a little bit about Langbiang peak. According to wikipedia, Langbiang tourist area has two mountains: Nui Ong (Grandfather Mountain) and Nui Ba (Grandmother Mountain) located 12 km from Da Lat city center in the territory of Lac Duong district. Nui Ba is 2,163 m above sea level and Nui Ong is 2,124 m above sea level. In addition, in this tourist area, there is another peak called Radar peak (1,929 m) which I will introduce to you in another post. Viewed from the center of Da Lat city, Nui Ba is on the left, and Nui Ong is on the right. Langbiang is likened to the "roof" of Da Lat, and an attractive tourist attraction of Da Lat city.
About the name Langbiang, it is a compound name from the love story of K'lang and H'biang according to the legend of the K'Ho ethnic group. K'lang was a Lat boy, a branch of the K'Ho ethnic group, and H'biang was a beautiful Chil girl, another branch of the K'Ho ethnic group. The K'lang and H'biang families were both at the foot of the mountain, they met by chance when they went to the forest to pick fruit. H'biang was surrounded by ferocious wolves and K'lang bravely saved her. Since then, they have fallen in love each other. But due to the curse between the Lat and Chil ethnic groups, H'biang could not marry K'lang. Despite strict customs and rituals, the couple was determined to come together. They became husband and wife and then moved to a place on the top of a mountain to live. When H'biang was sick, K'lang tried everything to cure her, but it didn't work. He had to bring her back to the village to find a way to save her. Not only did not help them, the villagers tried to kill them. After that, H'biang died because she blocked the poisoned arrows of the villagers aimed at K'lang. Witnessing H'biang's death, K'lang was in excruciating pain and cried a lot, his tears poured into a big stream which today is known as Da Nhim (Crying Stream). After the death of the couple, Biang's father regretted it and he unified the tribes into a people called K'Ho today. Since then, men and women in the villages have easily come together. The high mountain in La Ngu Thuong village, where K'lang and H'biang died, was named Lang Biang - a compound name of the couple, to commemorate the two and their love.
Considered as the "roof" of Da Lat, Langbiang Peak is a great destination for those who love climbing, adventure and nature. From Dalat city center, we, a group of four people, rode motorbikes with a distance of 12km to reach the foot of Langbiang mountain. To trek to the top of Langbiang, you should not enter the main gate of Langbiang tourist area, instead you should park your vehicle in the parking lots of people outside. After parking our motorbikes, we took the small trail to the right of the main gate of Langbiang tourist area to go up the mountain. With a distance of 10.6km and an expected trekking time of 4 hours, this promises to be quite a tough journey. I can divide this journey into 3 stages. At the beginning, the trail was quite gentle, we went through quite low hills where people grow coffee and other crops. The fertile basalt red soil is the typical soil of this land.
After passing through the low hills, we began to enter the much higher pine hills. The trail was not clear, so look for the carvings or the strips of cloth tied on the pine tree to find the trail to continue the journey. The higher the trek goes, the steeper the path seems to be. However, walking under the green pine forest with beautiful nature around and fresh air made us forget our fatigue and eagerly move forward to continue the journey. Along the way, you'll also encounter carvings or strips of fabric to let you know you're on the right track.
After passing the pine hill, we came across an asphalt road. Going along the asphalt road to the right, we saw a fork and the signpost showed the way and the distance of 3km to the top of Langbiang. Although the final route is only 3km long, it is also the most difficult one. We had to trek through a jungle with a dense trail. Although it wasn't the rainy season, the trail was very wet and slippery. Especially the higher we went, the higher and more slippery the steps were. One of us slipped and fell a few times. My advice is that you should bring trekking shoes with good adhesion. That's also the part where I think we spent the most effort.
But in return, the surrounding nature was beautiful. The rays of sunlight through the dense forest canopy made the forest become more sparkling. Before us was a party of colors created by diverse plants. We came across a lot of huge old trees with green moss covering their trunks along the way. They cover the entire forest, become home and shelter the other plants and animals below. Also, I saw some beautiful birds but I don't know what kind of birds they are. The beautiful nature and fresh air partly helped us overcome that arduous journey.
And finally, after about 4 hours of trekking, we reached the top of Langbiang. When we got there, we were alone in the vast space. It is understandable, because the trail to get there is quite difficult, so not many people go there. Do you know what was the first thing I did when I got there? I howled like a wolf when I saw the majestic beauty around. And then of course, a photo with the landmark of Langbiang peak is what we all wanted. We were all tired, but each of us was excited and proud that we made it.
And for me, the most enjoyable thing I did there was take in the beautiful surroundings. From the top of Langbiang, I had a majestic panoramic view of the beautiful city of Da Lat, surrounding rolling mountains and endless vast space. There is nothing better than lying on the grass, looking up at the vast sky and breathing in the fresh air in the midst of silence. Time seemed to slow down for me, all I could feel was peace and relaxation, it was an awsome experience.
Well, I had a wonderful trekking to conquer the peak of Langbiang 2167m. I can say what I got is much more than the effort and time I put in. It was definitely one of the unforgettable trips for me. If you are someone who loves to explore nature, do not miss this adventure when you have the opportunity to visit Da Lat, I am sure you will like it as much as I did. Thank you for taking the time to read my post and have a great day!
