Over the next few weeks I'll be leading a safari in East Africa. We will visit Nairobi National Park, West Tsavo National Park, Amboseli National Park, and the Masai Mara Nature Reserve in Kenya. Then we will travel to the mountains of Rwanda to trek with gorillas. I'll post the safari here in Hive, on pinmapple, and you can follow along as we go.
Welcome to the wild heart of Kenya, where the untamed beauty of nature comes alive in West Tsavo National Park. As you embark on this thrilling safari with me, you and your group of adventurous travelers are in for an unforgettable experience. West Tsavo National Park is a gem nestled in the vast landscapes of Kenya, boasting a unique blend of diverse ecosystems, abundant wildlife, and captivating landscapes that make it a truly special destination.
A blooming desert rose greets us at the entrance to West Tsavo.
It doesn't take long for us to have our first elephant encounter.
This will be our first look at the true wilds of Africa. West Tsavo is a canvas painted with the hues of Africa—endless savannahs, acacia-dotted plains, and rugged terrain that stretches as far as the eye can see. The park is home to the enchanting Chyulu Hills, a volcanic range that adds a dramatic backdrop to the expansive wilderness.
A hidden oasis in the heart of the park, Mzima Springs is a natural wonder that will leave your guests in awe. Crystal-clear waters gush from the volcanic rocks, creating a haven for hippos and crocodiles. Our safari will take you on a journey to witness these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.

West Tsavo is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. The park is teeming with an array of species, including the Big Five—elephants, lions, leopards, buffalos, and rhinos. Keep your cameras ready, as you may also encounter giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, and a plethora of bird species. Over 400 species of birds have been spotted in this area.

A very rare rhino encounter. West Tsavo had more black rhinos than anywhere else in the world, but aggresive poaching in the 70's and 80's dwindled the number to around 20 individuals. Now this is one of the most protected areas to lead the black rhino recovery project.
Beyond its natural wonders, West Tsavo offers a glimpse into the rich cultural tapestry of the region. Engage with the local communities surrounding the park, learn about their traditions, and savor the authentic flavors of Kenyan cuisine. Uji anyone? Or perhaps some ugali?
For the thrill-seekers in your group, West Tsavo National Park offers exciting activities such as guided bushwalks and night game drives. These experiences provide a unique perspective on the park's nocturnal inhabitants and allow for a closer connection with the untamed wilderness.
