Hello again friends, we are going to pick up where we left off, we continue to discover Croatia and its beautiful places. We started in the previous article, “Discovering Croatia (I): Split, monuments and beaches on the Adriatic Sea”, in the fantastic city of Split on the Dalmatian coast.
And there we were, looking at the sea from the promenade, approaching the port that we saw from above to catch the ferry to one of the incredible nearby islands in the Adriatic Sea. There are several, all wonderful… Hvar, Brač, Korčula and others, which are very popular in summer, with a lot of tourist and musical activity, so we cannot miss the opportunity to visit one of them.
So we set off towards the island of Hvar. An enchanting purple island, with sandless beaches and a center of pale buildings on the edge of the sea, always facing the sea, even from the mountains. The buildings have the same characteristic orange roofs over white stone, the same stone as for its cute little church, and a small tower that welcomes us even before setting foot there.
When disembarking, crowds, and awnings where you can have a cool drink under the strong sun. How about we go for a walk and go for a swim? We cross many palm trees and a green park, because there is also a lot of green and there are no beaches, just as we thought they would be... They are made of white stones, small stones when stepped on, large stones that frame the extraordinary sea of different shades of blue. It is the multi-colored island.
Hours go by, we continue rocked by the waves, which now shine in contrast to the sunlight that little by little is becoming more tenuous, more delicate. Delicate is the aroma that invades us at any time, in any corner. It's the lavender.
And there are fields of this aromatic violet flower along all the roads when we travel inland. We leave the blue and between mountains and hills we see only violet and green. That smell around us everywhere is magical.
We cannot leave without the best possible memory, take a little of that same relaxing and pleasant aroma with us. Walking through the urban area again we find ourselves surrounded by a multitude of stalls in different markets, most of them sell this natural treasure, so appreciated in the world of aromatherapy and essential oils, we cannot stop buying those precious bags of dried lavender and some other things. So we go, very relaxed, with lavender essence.
It has been a very fast and nice trip and now we must leave the island, back to the mainland to visit other enchanting places, we will miss a lot, but discover many impressive, inspiring and incredible. Do you know what the next stop will be? It is another small and peculiar town also in that area, and again more stones and the sea… Until the next article discovering Croatia!
By the way, the last two photos of the lavender fields and the lavender market are not mine. I indicate the source:(adventuresnsunsets.com and www.visit-hvar.com)
I took many photos then but due to a problem, I lost many of them... Things that happen. But the beautiful memories of the trips remain with us in our memory, and in this one, even the aroma of the violet island remains with me.
See you at the next stop discovering Croatia.
Thanks so much for reading! Have a beautiful and aromatic day!
