We had a short circular walk on Beeley Moor in Derbyshire, walking through the more rural and rugged part of the area. The weather is due to get increasingly hot over the weekend, so we thought it was best to get a good walk in today while it was a little cooler.
Round bales in fields are a sign of the times. When I was very young, the bales used to be an oblong shape. We used to make dens out of them until the farmer told us off!
Over a period of time, they changed shape to large round ones, reducing human labour as farm machinery got more advanced. In the meantime, the birds were playing 'king of the castle' on the bales.
The german chamomile flower reminded me of the daisies we used to pick in our childhood. We used to pluck their petals saying 's/he loves me, s/he loves me not'. When you get to the last remaining petal, you have your answer.
We spotted the meadow brown butterfly resting. I've still not seen many butterflies yet. Hopefully, this month we will see more about.
A lovely bumblebee on the thistle looking for nectar.
It won't be long before the heather will be out covering the moors in a carpet of purple.
The paths weren't too bad underfoot, so overall, a nice picturesque trail with good views from the top of the moor.
