As it was quite sunny this morning, I visited the quaint village of Ashover, UK. It's a lovely village just to have a stroll around while the weather is nice. I was pleased to see that the old red, iconic telephone box is still in situi. It isn’t in use anymore, but has been left as a historic, local landmark.
This old campervan was parked on someone's drive. It's a shame it has been to left to get into such a state. It just needs a bit of tender loving care to restore it.
I passed the church of St John the Baptist and made my way down to the Poet's Corner pub. It is a 17th century old coaching inn, which used to offer travellers food, drink, overnight accommodation, stables and fresh horses for the stagecoaches. As well as food and drink, I believe they still offer accommodation today. Just don’t bring your horse!
Along the bottom of the village, I found the footpath that would take me on a circular walk.
These well hidden footpaths are quite narrow. You would have to walk single file if you had any walking companions.
I find these old stone steps really interesting, as you can usually see the wear on the stone where people have walked up and down them over the years.
I finally ended up in the graveyard. What do they say? The sun shines on the righteous? The sun was hitting the gravestones, and the blossom on the tree was just emerging.
Driving home, I stopped to take a photo of the surrounding countryside. The sheep were in the top field grazing in the sun. You have to take advantage while the sun is out, as you never know what kind of weather tomorrow will bring (or even in the next hour!)
