My walk along the Meléndez River (Eng/Esp)

Today I am going to show you pictures of the trip I took with my family along the Meléndez River, located in the department of Valle del Cauca, in the municipality of Santiago de Cali, Colombia. The river is in an area known as La Buitrera, which is a kind of steep countryside where tourism is very popular due to its spectacular natural environment.

I felt like a great adventurer. We even crossed a bridge to get to the river. It was a splendid experience, full of excitement and adrenaline. The river is deep in the mountains. We walked uphill for quite a while, but the cold temperature helped make the climb less traumatic. I felt like Indiana Jones exploring the mountains of Cali. It was great.

When we arrived at the tourist area of the Meléndez River, I was surprised by the beauty of the landscape. Visitors can swim here, but when I entered the river, the water temperature made me shiver; it was freezing. However, I gradually warmed up. I had to show courage to the rest of the family, especially when other people were enjoying the pools and diving off a rock.

I like being in rivers, but in a conscious way, especially when it's my first time visiting this place. I know from experience that you always have to be aware of the flow, rain clouds on the horizon, or water that becomes cloudy and violent in an instant, which is a warning sign.

Thankfully, our adventure was unforgettable due to all the positive experiences we had in this tourist destination. We shared this moment with other families we met that day. Nature brought us together, and we had a very pleasant time. After enjoying ourselves until the afternoon, it was time to return, which was easier because the path was downhill, so momentum carried us along, making the end of this journey easier.

Hoy les voy a mostrar imágenes del paseo que realicé junto a mi familia por el Río Meléndez, el cual se encuentra ubicado en el departamento del Valle del Cauca, en el municipio de Santiago de Cali, Colombia. El río queda en un sector conocido como La Buitrera, que es especie de un campo empinado, donde se desarrolla mucho el turismo por lo espectacular de su ambiente natural.

Me sentía una gran aventurera, inclusive atravesamos un puente para llegar al río, fue una experiencia espléndida cargada de emociones y adrenalina. El río queda montaña adentro, caminamos cuesta arriba durante un buen trecho, la fría temperatura ayudó a que el ascenso no resultara traumático, me sentía Indiana Jones explorando las montañas de Cali, fue grandioso.

Cuando llegamos a la zona turística del Río Meléndez, me quedé sorprendida por la belleza del paisaje. Acá los visitantes se pueden dar un baño, pero cuando entré al río, la temperatura del agua me puso a temblar, estaba helada. Sin embargo, paulatinamente entré en calor. Había que transmitir valor al resto de la familia y más cuando otras personas disfrutaban de las pozas y se lanzaban en clavados desde una piedra.

Me gusta estar en los ríos, pero de una forma consciente y más cuando es primera vez que visito este lugar. Por experiencia sé que se debe estar pendiente siempre del caudal, nubes de lluvia en el horizonte o el agua que se vuelve turbia y violenta en instantes es una señal de alerta.

Gracias a Dios nuestra aventura resultó inolvidable por todo lo bueno que nos sucedió en este rincón turístico. Compartimos este momento con otras familias con las cuales coincidimos este día. La naturaleza nos unió y pasamos un rato muy agradable. Tras disfrutar hasta la tarde, era la hora de regresar, lo que resultó más sencillo porque el camino era cuesta abajo, así que la inercia nos acompañó, facilitando el final de esta travesía.
