I lived in Foshan, China a few years. There is a massive statue I've always been curious of. It can indeed be seen from far away, and the sight of it always inspired me a kind of serenity, so different from the actual buzzing of a tier 2 Chinese city.
The statue is dedicated to Guanyin, the Buddhist deity of compassion. According to wikipedia, it's the 31st tallest statue in the world with a height of 62 meters.
The entrance contains a "wish tree", in which you can try to hang up a wish.
But you arrive quite quickly to the Guanyin Memorial Arch, presenting you the statue in all its serenity.
The arch itself is quite beautiful and finely decorated, with statues on the front and back.
Of course there will be a few steps to climb. There's always steps (the site is an old volcano moreover).
Sorry the photo is bad, it's the best I have to try to illustrate the sentiment of massive hugeness as you approach. Believe me, it cannot be captured.
And finally, Guanyin in all her beauty and majesty.
Now you're probably wondering, the panorama should be nice from there, right?
Well... You can see far away, for sure. But you're looking at a buzzing tier 2 Chinese city...
I definitely prefer to let you hang here. Enjoy the majesty of Guanyin.
