Greetings to the traveling community. Today we will walk around the Atocha area of Madrid. It is an area of the city with a lot of history, large buildings and very well connected. It has numerous bus lines connecting different parts of the city, two subway stations and the emblematic Atocha train station.

Saludos a la comunidad más viajera. Hoy pasearemos por la zona de Atocha de Madrid. Es una zona céntrica de la ciudad con mucha historia, grandes edificaciones y muy bien comunicada. Cuenta con numerosas líneas de autobús que conectan distintos puntos de la ciudad, dos estaciones de metro y la emblemática estación trenes de Atocha.

The original idea was to get to the Casa Encendida, an exhibition center, to see what we could find there. However, when we passed the bus at the Atocha train station we decided to get off. In a few moments you will understand the reason for this change of plans.
La idea original era llegar a la Casa Encendida, un centro de exposiciones, a ver qué podíamos encontrar por allí. Sin embargo, al pasar en el autobús a la altura de la estación de trenes de Atocha decidimos bajarnos. En unos momentos entenderéis el motivo de este cambio de planes.
When we got off the bus, we looked around us and headed to what would be the beginning of this walk. In a few minutes we arrive next to the entrance and exit of the high speed train. The afternoon is sunny, ideal for any walker or cyclist. From our location, what strikes us most are two large bronze sculptures, creations of Antonio Lopez. They are two large children's heads, a composition entitled "Día y Noche" (Day and Night).
En el momento de bajarnos del autobús,observamos a nuestro alrededor y nos dirigimos a lo que sería el inicio de este paseo. En pocos minutos llegamos junto a la entrada y salida del tren de alta velocidad. La tarde es soleada, ideal para cualquier paseante o cualquier ciclista. Desde nuestro emplazamiento, lo que más nos llama la atención son dos grandes esculturas de bronce, creaciones de Antonio López. Se trata de dos grandes cabezas de niño, una composición titulada Día y Noche.

These two heads are visited every day by thousands of visitors willing to take a selfie in front of them. To me, these two disproportionate heads peeking out from somewhere transmit a certain uneasiness. At the same time, my imagination does not stop drawing in my mind various forms that complete these two figures, incomplete to the eye of the traveler.
Estas dos cabezas son visitadas todos los días por millares de visitantes dispuestos a hacerse un selfie delante de ellas. A mí, estas dos desproporcionadas cabezas que asoman desde algún lugar me transmiten cierta inquietud. After a few minutes we decided to move towards the Cuesta de Moyano. As its name suggests, it is a slope that connects a large traffic circle, the Plaza del Emperador Carlos V, with the Retiro Park. Walking, we leave behind the Archaeology Museum. We stop for a few moments in front of the monumental Ministry of Agriculture. In this building stand out its columns, its vegetal ornamentations, its classical air and above all, this is literal, three enormous figures of broccoli. How did they get to the top of the building? I have no idea.
Pasados unos minutos decidimos movernos hacia la Cuesta de Moyano. Como su nombre indica es una cuesta que une una gran rotonda, la Plaza del Emperador Carlos V , con el Parque del Retiro. Paseando, vamos dejando atrás al Museo de Arqueología. Nos detenemos unos instantes delante del monumental Ministerio de Agricultura. En esta edificación destacan sus columnas, sus ornamentaciones de tipo vegetal, su aire clásico y por encima de todo, esto es literal, destacan tres enormes figuras de broce. ¿Cómo llegaron a lo alto del edificio? No tengo ni idea.

On our walk, we passed by the Plaza del Emperador Carlos V, whose center is presided over by the Fuente de la Alcachofa (Artichoke Fountain). In this square converge several streets with heavy traffic. The noise of the works and traffic, the truth is that they become annoying.

Once on the Cuesta Moyano, we find a permanent book fair. Next to it is the Botanical Garden and very close by, there is also the Barrio de las Letras and the Prado Museum. This is left for another walk.
On the slope we can find more than 20 gray wooden booths, which sell a variety of second-hand and antique books. Almost all are written in Spanish, although it is possible to find books in other languages.
Una vez en la Cuesta Moyano, nos encontramos con una feria permanente de libros. A un lado quedan el Jardín Botánico y muy cerca, también se hayan el Barrio de las Letras y el Museo del Prado. Esto queda pendiente para otro paseo.
En la cuesta podemos se hayan más de 20 casetas de madera de color gris, en los que se venden toda una variedad de libros de segunda mano y libros antiguos. Casi todos están escritos en español, aunque es posible encontrar libros en otros idiomas.

When we leave, we have the impression of having traveled to a magical place for a few minutes. Once outside, we were struck by the fact that a flock of birds was waiting for us above the railroad station. Birds that, over the urban horizon, were drawing two arrowheads for us. A great culmination for an exhibition that moved us at times.

The light is transforming, the sun is hiding on the horizon, leaving a thin and faint glow that gradually fades. We are leaving behind the Ministry of Agriculture, the Plaza del Emperador Carlos V. Our destination is near the Plaza de Lavapiés, in Argumosa street, a street full of bars and restaurants.

After an excellent dinner of delicious portions accompanied by a cold beer (maybe more), we decided to take a bus back home.
The night covers Madrid, and among artificial lights a new landscape emerges. It doesn't look like the same place as a few hours ago. Selene is the queen of the moment, the urban rhythm has slowed down, traffic is scarce, as well as pedestrians.
Terminada una excelente cena a base de ricas raciones acompañadas de una cerveza (quizás más) bien fría, decidimos coger un autobús para volver a casa.
La noche cubre Madrid, y entre luces artificiales emerge un nuevo paisaje. No parece el mismo lugar de hace unas horas. Selene es la reina del momento, el ritmo urbano se ha aminorado, el tráfico es escaso, tanto como los viandantes.
