Today I'm going to walk you through a place that is both interesting and sad in the same time. I'm going to show you the Evangelical church and a restaurant. I think it's best to start with the church and then continue, or finish with the restaurant.
The village is called Buzd, Szászbuzd is Hungarian and it is located at a distance of 5 km southeast of Mediaș, Sibiu county. For me it was the first time, but I hope not the last. Not because the village is so beautiful, but because of the delicious food the restaurant is serving those who are eager to spend an hour or two at the terrace next to a lake, admiring the beauty of nature. But let's take it step by step.
The Fortified Church
The fortified church is on a hill, as expected. These fortified structure had their own purpose, besides serving as a church, so building them on a hill is not a surprise.
To get to the church, you need to climb some stairs, so wearing comfortable shoes would be recommended.
At the top of the first set of stairs, there's the village kindergarten, which is not a surprise as back when the fortress was built, schools and any for of educational institution was run by the church and the priest was the teacher.
Another set of stairs under the wooden cover seemed to be the way up to what is called fortified church. When I saw this, it gave me Sighișoara vibes, a term most likely only 
I knew what I'm going to find as I've done my homework, and the condition of the wooden gate just confirmed my expectations.
The stairs are the original, made of stone. While walking up on those stairs, it's impossible not to think of how many people walked there up and down, before me, over the centuries.
At the top, there were two doors on each side, leading to a house on the right and on the left you could walk along the wall I suppose.
Curtains on the window indicated that the house was inhabited, but who knows. On the right side door there was a sign letting people know there's an angry dog there. No one knows when was that sign posted on the door, but the sight was not giving me confidence to go on and see what's there.
At the top of the stairs, there was another wooden door, leading inside the fortress, but it was closed. That was expected as the church is not in use anymore.
In the Middle Ages it was a village inhabited mostly by Saxons. It is currently inhabited mostly by Roma. source
After finding closed doors, I went round to see if i can find an angle to take some photos of the church and this was the best I could do.
This church is going to disappear in the upcoming future, as the inhabitants of the village are of other ethnicity an other religion (if any). It's a shame as there's an organ in the church, that was built by Samuel Mätz in 1823.
The late-gothic hall church stands in the centre of the village green. The choir with a 5/8 apse is oriented towards the south. The brick building with stepped buttresses has a groin vault with penetrations and a network of brick ribs; further up, stands a two-storey defence structure with loopholes. At present, the church is surrounded by an approximately 2m-high wall; there is a gate house with a wall-walk in the northern section of the wall. The plain inner decoration is dominated by the Baroque altar.
Accessing this link, you can see the inside of the church and read the whole history of it. It's painful to see such a nice church, which had been the spiritual home of so many, on its way of disappearance.
I'm not going to show you the village, as there's nothing t see there, except for the poverty and all the rest that comes with it. When we drove through the city, every head turned after us and after seeing what was there, I was almost afraid to leave the car unattended. We didn't go far, so nothing bad happened.
Cherhana Denisa Restaurant, Guesthouse
The restaurant and guesthouse is located way before the entrance of the village and has a strange name I'm never going to remember, but that's the name of the owner and they have thought it's a good idea to use it.
The building has a hexagonal form and has two levels, but there's a terrace over the lake, where you can enjoy the beauty of the place.
Looking at this photo makes me smile as there's a funny story here. We didn't want to go inside as the weather was nice and it was better to sit here, have some fresh air, instead of being locked in a room. Then someone asked me why is the terrace empty, which is a legit question. They say a good restaurant is always busy and I fully agree with that statement. Actually this place is usually packed, but the day of our visit, it was overcast, the wind was blowing as well. So I told the person who asked me, that are not trained for this weather. In my eye, if it's not raining, the weather is good. But in case of a terrace, it's ok if it's raining too.
That's the guesthouse. I have checked out their Fb page, the rooms are ok, but unless it's for an event, I don't think I would book a room there.
This is the lake, which is full of fish, but the fish they are serving is not from the lake.
It's October already, so the place was nicely decorated to celebrate autumn.
There was this basket full of bread leftovers, which seemed odd, but then I saw birds helping themselves. It seems like not a bad idea, but if you think a bit deeper, bread contains yeast and bids don't need yeast.
We didn't eat anything this time. I had a lemonade, which was good, but I'm planning to go back and have a complete fish menu next time I'm in the area.
