Before my trip to Madrid talking with a friend who also had several years living in Lima - Peru and that like me had not traveled to Cusco, which made us feel bad, thinking that we had so much time in a place with so much culture and had not visited one of the wonders of the world, Machu Picchu, lagoons of Cusco and the imposing mountain of 7 colors. ... we decided to take a few days to rest from work, routine and all the madness we were living with the Coronavirus and we went to Cusco... In the first days we visited this beautiful mountain and I will tell you more about it.
The 7 Colors Mountain, known as Vinicunca or Rainbow Mountain, is one of the most impressive mountains in Cusco - Peru. Located about 100 kilometers from the city of Cusco, it is at an altitude of 5,200 meters above sea level (m.a.s.l.).
Vinicunca is a mountain formation dyed with various colors resulting from the combination of minerals. The mountain itself is dyed in various shades including red, purple, green, yellow, pink and other variations.
This tourist attraction was surrounded by ice not many years ago. Since 2016, this place receives hundreds of visitors a day becoming, along with Machu Picchu, one of the most visited places in Cusco-Peru.
Antes de mi viaje a madrid hablando con un amigo que también tenía varios años residiendo en Lima - Peru y que al igual que yo no habia viajado a Cusco, lo cual nos hacia sentir mal, pensar que teniamos tanto tiempo en un lugar con tanta cultura y que no habiamos visitado una de las maravillas mundiales, Machu Picchu, lagunas de cusco y la imponente montaña de 7 colores... tomamos la desicion de tomarnos unos dias para descansar del trabajo, la rutina y toda la locura que estabamos viviendo con el Coronavirus y nos fuimos a Cusco... En los primeros dias visitamos esta hermosa montaña y les contare mas sobre ella.
La Montaña de 7 Colores, conocido como Vinicunca o montaña de Arco Iris, es una de las montaña más impresionantes de Cusco – Perú. Ubicado a unos 100 kilómetros de la ciudad del Cusco, se encuentra a una altitud de 5,200 metros sobre el nivel del mar (m.s.n.m.).
Vinicunca es una formación montañosa teñida con varios colores resultantes de la combinación de minerales. La montaña misma están teñidas en varios tonos incluyendo rojo, púrpura, verde, amarillo, rosa y otras variaciones.
Esta atracción turística estaba rodeada de hielo no hace muchos años. Desde 2016, este lugar recibe cientos de visitantes al día convirtiéndose, junto con Machu Picchu, en uno de los lugares más visitados de Cusco-Perú.
The official name of the 7 Colors Mountain is Vinicunca, it comes from the Quechua toponym: Winicunca, which means: Wini = Hill and cunca = neck.
The 7 Colors Mountain of Vinicunca is located in the Cordillera del Vilcanota, near Ausangate, between the districts of Cusipata and Pitumarca, provinces of Quispicanchi and Canchis, Cusco region, southern Peru.

The climate of the Montaña de 7 Colores is variable, but because it is located in the middle of the Andes Mountains and its altitude it has a glacial climate, its average annual temperature is between 7 to 12 °C (41 to 54 °F).
According to the seasons that Cusco presents (rainy season and drought), temperatures can vary greatly, during the rainy season which is from October to April, the temperature in the mornings is about -0 ° C, and the day can reach about 10 ° C, in the dry season in the mornings can be -5 ° C and day about 8 ° C.
It is very windy and it is freezing, due to the altitude and lack of oxygen makes the hike quite difficult but at the beginning and half way there are some villagers renting horses to help you get to the foot of the mountain, and when you reach this point you must continue on foot as the road is very narrow and steep but it is quite short and has a rope so you can hold on and help you climb.

El clima de la Montaña de 7 Colores es variante, pero de por estar ubicada en medio de la cordillera de los Andes y su altitud tiene un clima glacial, su temperatura promedio anual es de entre 7 a 12 °C.
De acuerdo a las temporadas que se presenta Cusco (época de lluvias y sequía), las temperaturas pueden variar mucho, durante la época de lluvias que es desde los meses de octubre a abril, la temperatura por las mañanas es de unos -0 °C, y por el dia puede llegar a unos 10 °C, en la época de sequía por las mañanas puede estar -5 °C y por el día unos 8 °C.
Hace mucho viento y este es helado, debido a la altura y la falta de oxigeno hace que la caminata sea bastante dificil pero al inicio y a mitad del camino estan algunos aldeanos alquilando caballos que ayudan a llegar hasta el pie de la montaña, ya al llegar a este punto debes continuar a pie ya que el camino es muy estrecho e inclinado pero es bastante corto y cuenta con una cuerda para que te puedas agarrar y ayudarte a subir.
My recommendations for those who want to go:
-Travel between the dry season, between the months of April and November.

-We recommend you to do this activity as one of the last ones of your trip to Cusco, this way you will be acclimatized to the altitude.
Bring your trekking equipment: wide-brimmed hat, small backpack, trekking shoes, warm clothes, sunscreen, trekking poles, rain poncho, water and food.
-Buy water and food in the city of Cusco or in Cusipata or Pitumarca, the only places where you will find a store.
-Do not travel with children under 12 years old.
-Finally, before starting the trek to Vinicunca, do not forget to acclimatize yourself to the climate of the Cusco region. This way you will avoid altitude sickness (soroche).
Mis recomendaciones para el que quiera ir:
-Viaje entre la estación seca, entre los meses de abril y noviembre.
-Trate de estar en buena salud y en buena condición física.
-Le recomendamos realizar esta actividad como una de las ultimas de su viaje a Cusco, de esta manera ya estará un poco aclimatado a la altura.
-Lleve su equipo de trekking: sombrero de ala ancha, mochila pequeña, zapatos de trekking, ropa abrigada, protector solar, bastones de trekking, poncho de lluvia, agua y comida.
-Compre agua y comida en la ciudad del Cusco o en Cusipata o Pitumarca, los únicos lugares donde encontrará una tienda.
-No viaje con niños menores de 12 años.
-Finalmente, antes de emprender la caminata a Vinicunca, no olvide aclimatarse al clima de la región del Cusco. De esta manera evitará el mal de altura (soroche).
