Sí, estamos en la Patagonia. Si alguien me hubiese dicho hace dos meses que estaría aquí, me le hubiese reído en la cara. Pero la vida entrega regalos insospechados. Eso sí, con un esfuerzo económico del cual deseo no arrepentirme jamás ¿Por qué? Creo que las imágenes que verán a continuación, son el resumen del encuentro brutal de la naturaleza con el hombre. Y ésta te hace recordar lo pequeño que somos y lo tanto que le debemos. Sí, mi padre me había dicho que viniera a Buenos Aires, pero fue nuestro hijo quien insistió hacernos venir a la patagonia Argentina. Y tuvo razón. Nunca le estaré más agradecido.

Yes, we are in Patagonia. If someone had told me two months ago that I would be here, I would have laughed in their face. But life gives unsuspected gifts. Yes, with an economic effort that I wish to never regret. Why? I believe that the images you will see below are a summary of the brutal encounter between nature and man. And this one reminds you how small we are and how much we owe her. Yes, my father had told me to come to Buenos Aires, but it was our son who insisted on making us come to Patagonia Argentina. And he was right. I will never be more grateful to him.

Al llegar a San Carlos de Bariloche te das cuenta que no es muy diferente a cualquier pueblo andino, pero con una gran ventaja: una infraestructura diseñada específicamente para manejar un gran volumen de viajeros. Un destino ideal, relativamente costoso (si sabes buscar, puedes hacerlo económico) y con un alma colectiva volcada a la atención del turista como en ninguna otra parte he visto. La gente de acá es la mar de atenta y te sacan de aprietos con la conciencia eterna de su papel dentro del entorno turístico geoestratégico. Así, por ejemplo, nos vimos sin una tarjeta de la línea de ómnibus por estar agotadas, sin embargo, eso no restó solidaridad con gente desconocida que nos ofrecía pagar el pasaje con su tarjeta a cambio de efectivo.

When you get to San Carlos de Bariloche you realize that it is not much different from any other Andean town, but with a great advantage: an infrastructure specifically designed to handle a large volume of travelers. An ideal destination, relatively expensive (if you know how to look for it, you can make it affordable) and with a collective soul devoted to the attention of the tourist like nowhere else I have seen. The people here are very attentive and they get you out of trouble with the eternal awareness of their role within the geostrategic tourist environment. So, for example, we found ourselves without a bus card because they were sold out, however, that did not detract from the solidarity with strangers who offered to pay the fare with their card in exchange for cash.

Hicimos dos recorridos combinados dentro del primer día estando acá: Cascada Los Alerces y Cerro Tronador. El valor AR$ 6.700 por persona (alrededor de US$ 35), nos conmovimos. Azules infinitos, verdes espectaculares, fauna autóctona, cascadas prístinas, glaciar negro (el único en su clase en el mundo), lago verde con hielo caído del ventisquero negro, en fin, algo que no estaba dentro de nuestras expectativas. Una sorpresa natural que pocos tienen la dicha de conocer, pero que vale la pena divulgar.

We did two combined tours within the first day we were here: Los Alerces Waterfall and Cerro Tronador. The value AR$ 6,700 per person (about US$ 35), we were moved. Infinite blues, spectacular greens, native fauna, pristine waterfalls, black glacier (the only one of its kind in the world), green lake with ice falling from the Ventisquero Negro, in short, something that was not within our expectations. A natural surprise that few have the joy of knowing, but it is worth spreading.

Es decir, dentro de los muchos viajes que hemos hecho, las expectativas son algo que aprendes a controlar. Así, no te decepcionas si algo no está a la altura de lo que creías. Pero cuando encuentras algo como lo que tuvimos el privilegio de ver, te pones a filosofar la vida de modos que no lo harías en tu día a día. Incluso cuando escribo esto y a dos días de haber tenido la experiencia, los fotogramas de las bellezas vistas se cruzan en mi mente sin poder conseguir las palabras para dar justo dimensionamiento a lo visto. De allí la importancia de las imágenes compartidas acá.

I mean, within the many trips we've taken, expectations are something you learn to manage. So, you don't get disappointed if something doesn't live up to what you thought it would. But when you find something like what we were privileged to see, you get to philosophize life in ways you wouldn't in your day-to-day life. Even as I write this and two days after having the experience, stills of the beauties seen cross my mind without being able to get the words to give the right dimension to what I saw. Hence the importance of the images shared here.

El guía fue muy aleccionador y dentro del profundo bagaje en dominio del lugar, sentimos también el amor por una tierra que arranca suspiros. El legado de Don Pascasio Moreno (conocido como el perito Moreno) es inmenso, tanto o mayor que el del Prusiano Alejandro Humboldt, el primer naturalista que catalogó la flora y la fauna venezolana. Los límites entre Chile y Argentina fue el máximo aporte de tantos que hizo; de hecho, por el pico del Cerro Tronador pasa el límite que separa ambos países.

The guide was very enlightening and within the deep knowledge of the place, we also felt the love for a land that makes you sigh. Intento ser profuso en los textos de mis escritos de viaje. Quienes me siguen lo saben. Pero el cansancio combinado con la cantidad de imágenes que nos ha tocado catalogar para presentarles acá, nos obliga a ser honestos: quisimos que los fotogramas hablaran por nosotros. Es la justa dimensión de proporcionalidad. Un pequeño vídeo que pueden ver más arriba les entrega la visita al curso de la cascada Los Alerces y hemos subido la cantidad de imágenes compartidas para que puedan disfrutar la vista que se nos ha regalado. Conmovido por lo demás, tenemos un par de publicaciones adicionales que estaremos preparando conforme el tiempo y el cansancio nos permita. Nos leemos por ahí.

I try to be profuse in the texts of my travel writings. Those who follow me know it.
