Hacia muchos años que no visitaba este sitio, ya que venir a santa rosa es sinónimo de espíritualidad y desde muy niño venía junto a mi madre a visitar en vísperas de semana santa a lugar
Esta publicación tiene un toque religioso como turístico porque vine a visitar a un sitio llamado Santa Rosa lugar donde cada 14 de Enero se reúnen aproximadamente 4 millones de personas para hacer una procesiónes marianas más grande del mundo, la de la Divina Pastora, Vírgen con gran devoción y feligresia en Venezuela.
Como dato curioso esta Virgen es considerada con la tercera procesión con más devotos en el mundo solo después de la virgen de Guadalupe (México) y Fátima (Portugal)
Santa Rosa está en Barquisimeto, Estado Lara que es uno de los principales estados de Venezuela. Es un lugar muy pequeño y pintoresco, con casas llenas de murales reflejando desde la religiosidad hasta personajes culturales del lugar.
También tiene una plaza en todo el centro que está al frente de la Iglesia, y también tiene un mirador que tiene una vista frente al rio turbio.
Historias del lugar
Estando en este lugar me recibío mi amiga María Zenaida quien vive ahí y fue mi guía turística y ella muy amablemente me paseo por todo Santa Rosa y me contó muchas historias de este lugar tan lleno de historias como esta
Cuentan que, al principio de los años 50 un platillo volador cayó en este rio y que para ese tiempo no había mucha población en esta zona pero quienes estaban, pudieron hacer eco de este hecho y cuentan que para ese tiempo la NASA vino a hacer investigaciónes secretas en el lugar
Y haciendo alegoría a este acontecimiento el artista venezolano Llordaz lo reflejo en esta pared donde podemos ver el hecho resumido en este hermoso mural.
(Aunque esté sitio es conocido más por su Virgen también hay muchas historias como esta que les traje y que yo tampoco lo sabía)
Ciudad Mural
El estado de Barquisimeto tuvo la iniciativa de transformar las casas coloniales y las calles empedradas de Santa Rosa en un museo al aire libre, dónde los visitantes disfruten de estas obras viendo así las casas transformadas en lienzo, dónde se encuentran personajes de la cuidad, de este lugar y del pais
Mi amiga María Zenaida quien vive en este lugar y es guía turística y educadora fue homenajeada en este proyecto de cuidad mural por su trayectoria y trabajo dedicación
Aquí en Santa Rosa también podemos conseguir, pequeños restaurantes con dulces, comida y bebidas autóctona del estado Lara como el Cocuy que es un licor seco extraído de una planta que crece en suelo árido, también hay un mirador que tiene una vista hermosa hacia el río turbio y museo dedicado a la virgen Divina Pastora
En la actualidad se está promoviendo mucho el turismo en este lugar que cada semana se hacen actividades culturales, educativas y religiosas con la finalidad de darle más visibilidad a este hermoso lugar.

It had been many years since I’d last visited this place, as coming to Santa Rosa is synonymous with spirituality, and ever since I was very young, I used to come here with my mother to visit on the eve of Holy Week.
This post has both a religious and a tourist angle, as I came to visit a place called Santa Rosa, where, every 14 January, around 4 million people gather for the world’s largest Marian procession, that of the Divina Pastora, a Virgin who is deeply revered and has a huge following in Venezuela.
Interestingly, this Virgin is considered to have the third-largest procession in the world in terms of the number of devotees, after the Virgin of Guadalupe (Mexico) and Fátima (Portugal)
Santa Rosa is located in Barquisimeto, Lara State, one of Venezuela’s main states. It is a very small and picturesque place, with houses covered in murals depicting everything from religious themes to local cultural figures.
It also has a square right in the centre, opposite the church, and a viewpoint overlooking the Turbio River.
Local stories
Whilst I was there, I was met by my friend María Zenaida, who lives in the area and acted as my tour guide; she very kindly showed me around Santa Rosa and told me many stories about this place, which is so rich in tales like this one
They say that, in the early 1950s, a flying saucer crashed into this river and that, at that time, there weren’t many people living in this area, but those who were there were able to recount the event, and they say that, at that time, NASA came to carry out secret investigations in the area
And, drawing inspiration from this event, the Venezuelan artist Llordaz depicted it on this wall, where we can see the story summarised in this beautiful mural.
(Although this site is better known for its Virgin, there are also many stories like the one I’ve shared with you, which I didn’t know about either)
City of Murals
The municipality of Barquisimeto took the initiative to transform the colonial houses and cobbled streets of Santa Rosa into an open-air museum, where visitors can enjoy these works of art, seeing the houses transformed into canvases featuring figures from the city, this area and the country
My friend María Zenaida, who lives here and works as a tour guide and educator, was honoured in this community mural project for her career and dedicated work
Here in Santa Rosa, you can also find small restaurants serving sweets, food and drinks native to Lara State, such as Cocuy – a dry liqueur made from a plant that grows in arid soil. There is also a viewpoint offering a beautiful view of the Turbio River and a museum dedicated to the Virgin Divina Pastora.
Tourism is currently being heavily promoted in this area, with cultural, educational and religious activities taking place every week with the aim of raising the profile of this beautiful place.
