Hello everyone !
This story started when we were in vineyard for Iva's engagement party. Girls and I talked how it was a long time since we traveled somewhere together.
We often watched the prices of flight on eSky waiting for some cheaper tickets. Our wanted destination was Malaga in Spain, but the tickets were not that cheap and we decided to wait, maybe something comes up. So on that engagement party in July we drank a little and Ivona found pretty cheap round-trip ticket for 62 dollars to Marseille in France. Since we were all there so we decided we are going in France. The trip occurred on 3th of October. Ivona, Lucia and I slept at Iva's place and Jana slept at her boyfriend's place because he lives few minutes away. We woke up at 4AM and called a taxi to pick us up and drove to airport Franjo Tuđman in Zagreb. Our flight took of at 6:15AM Around 8AM we came to airport in Marseille. Also i was little bit scared because this was my second flight with plane and i sat alone, because we took random places to sit. We took a bus from airport to central bus station in Marseille from were we went on foot to our apartment.
We booked an apartment in very center of the city. The door of the place where we stayed had three locks. People told us that there is a lot of criminal activities in Marseille, but to be honest, we did not felt scared in any moment, people we met were all pretty kind to us and helped us as much as they can. We left our things in apartment and decided who will sleep with whom and after that we went for a sightseeing. First we went to eat brunch in Cafe Coogee. The food and coffee was delicious and we felt pretty full after we ate everything. After that we went on a walking spree. First we visited the Marseille port. I really loved how big it is and all these big buildings around it were pretty interesting to see. From the port you can se a Notre Dame de la Garde on top of a hill.
We walked for so long that day, but we will never forget how much fun we had, and also the weather was so beautiful that day. We got a lot of pictures, sat on bench admiring the port, talked a lot about all thing that we usually don't get time to when we meet in Zagreb for a coffee or a lunch. We went in Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations. The museum was interesting and there is few parts to it. There are also three entrances to it and we entered through Fort Saint-Jean. We walked around fort and saw beautiful scenery of Mediterrian sea.
After that we went to 7VB coffee to get something sweet and for a coffee. People who worked there were so nice. I ordered fresh orange juice and after me my friend Iva also oredered it, but the waiter said they dont have anymore and I orederd the last one. I told Iva she could drink with me if she wanted. After they brought everything we ordered waiter brought one more orange juice for Iva and apolozied because he sad there was no more of it and said the juice is on him. We werent expected that, what a pretty gest.
The next day we decided to take a trip to small town one hour from Marseille called Aix-en-Provence. First reason why we choose this city is because we all liked it and the second reason was because there was a store named Longchamp and Ivona wanted one bag that we couldn't find in Marseille or to be more exact the color of the bag. It also was sold on internet too. When we came to the store they also didn't have the color of the bag that se wanted, but in the end she choose the other color and was even more happier because she liked this color more.
The weather was even better that day because it wasn't windy. I really enjoyed walking trough this small city. Even when in that time it was autumn already this small town was full of color and people. We walked through the main promenade and admired how everything looked pretty elegant. Also we went to the well known market where people sell their products.
When we came back from Aix-en-Provence we went to eat somewhere since it was already pretty late. We ended up in Five Guys fast food. To be honest we couldn't agree what kind of food we want to eat and because we were too hungry this was the fastest way to get food.
On the last day we went to Notre-Dame de la Garde and Cathedrale La Major.
First we visited Notre-Dame de la Garde. We went there on foot, so it took us a while since its placed on top of the hill. I always wonder how they managed to build such a big buildings on top of the hills and also manage to make them so stunning.
Notre-Dame de la Garde really is magnificent, we spent almost three hours sightseeing it from outside and inside. It was pretty crowded all over the place but it was worth it. We also sat on one of the benches and just talk for almost an hour.
The views from the place where Notre-Dame is was beautiful, we all admired it for a long time and took like a million pictures.
The last thing we visited was Cathedrale la Major. We saw the Cathedrale the first day but we decided to visit it on last day. It was massive and different than the churches that we have here in Croatia. I really like this lines on facade it really gives so much power when you look at it, and you can represent to yourself how important this building was and still is. We walked trough the Cathedrale and took photos later outside in front of the red doors, and yet again sat near it and watched the view.
After we saw both Notre-Dame and Cathedral we wanted to walk around the city once more and went to eat homemade gnocchi.
I was so happy to be in Marseille even though it wasn't the destination that we wanted to visit, but at the end we don't regret it, everything was perfect the weather, food, city.
I hope one day i will come back to France and visit more places in that country.
