Apparently Bloemenmarkt on Singel canal is a renowned and famous market, selling all things from bulbs to tacky tourist tat wonderful souvenirs of Amsterdam.
It is the only floating flower market in the world existing since 1862.
I believed the hype. They lie.
It may have been floating in 1862, when traders travelled in their barges to sell their produce. Now it is just a row of greenhouse type buildings on CONCRETE.
All the kiosks seemed to be selling the same items at similar prices, the place was packed and then it started to rain, seriously rain. It was a good place to take shelter!!
I wonder who buys all this Junk and rubbish wonderful products, hand crafted by local artisans. Local to where I do not know!!!
I thought at first these must be genetically modified as I have never seen such vivid and bright colours on cacti before. Apparently not, I stand corrected
I had heard about this plant when I was in Cambodia, where it is native.
Why I didn't buy any.
A) Notoriously difficult to grow
B) It stinks like rotting meat
C) Only blooms every 15 or so years
D) I didn't want to put it to shame
Right I'm off.
