Easter, a date in the christian calendar, (apparently it is a moveable date, due to it being based upon the jewish calendar which follows the cycles of the moon) is hugely celebrated throughout the Germanic speaking bits of continental europe, more so perhaps as it is a long weekend break away from work rather than any religious inclination, with fairs festivals and markets being held here there and everywhere; something that hasn't caught on in the uk..........yet
Whilst i was in Leipzig I thought I would have a wander around their take on an historical market. It would appear to be the 25th year of said festival.
It was good to see so many folk out in the spring sunshine, face nappy free, mingling enjoying life.
A band of strolling players providing entertainment, through theatre music and comedy
The stalls full of artisanal craftwork
One could also purchase mass produced stuff
Or some nice cheese.
It is very much like the christmas markets except there is a lack of Gluhwein and snow.
But BBQ and beer will suffice!
A gentle carousel for the kiddies to ride on
Scream if ya wanna go faster
Perusing the stalls
Whilst skilled in the art of wood turning on a treddle lathe an artisan goes about his business
and then there is stuff that just makes ya chuckle
