As part of the #HiveBloPoMo I started blogging about a place I've visited during my travels! So on Thursday I'll take you on a throwback trip!
This time we're revisiting Graskop!
So how did I end up in Graskop?
Well... It's was completely at random. During a month of traveling through South Africa (and Eswatini aka Swaziland) my cousin and I had a few things on the list. Graskop was not one of them 😂. Matter of fact, we just looked at the map to see which town was nearest to our next stop 😂.
But there are no regrets here...
Graskop turned out to be a quaint little town consisting of a few streets and in the middle of what seemed to be 'nowhere' (see drone shots)
And yet, it's was very calming, very serene.
We booked a hostel (read, we drove up to a hostel 😅😅😅) and planned to stay a few nights.
You see Graskop itself might not have any big or popular attractions but it was close enough for us to drive to some.
(The scenic route and the world famous three Rondavels being two of them, but that's another blog post).
We ended up staying for a few reasons. One was the fact that we could see the surrounding area. But another big deal was the fact that the WI-FI was good enough for me to have my consulting calls with the UK and Trinidad & Tobago. At that point, like I try to do most of the time, I made a goal to combine business with pleasure. This meant I had to have Wi-Fi every couple of days. Graskop provided!
# The hostel was not too shabby either.
It was a nice cozy one and the property was set on a hill. It kind of gave you a cabin feel.
haha gotta love the signage!
I visited South Africa in June which turned out to be low season so we had the luxury of picking our hostels (everyone was glad to see us!).
One slight drawback was the fact that it was winter 😅, so the higher up we got up north, the colder it got.
# But back to Graskop.
The town also had its charms, a few shops, a couple of restaurants and a few bars (yes we went).
It made me think of what kind of traditions they might have... Or how the town got started in the first place.
The Big Swing
After about 4 days we moved on to our next town but not without trying the Big Swing! This was not planned, we were driving away and we saw the signs and just went for it! It's basically a swing of a cliff and into a ravine! Who comes up with this stuff. Also you had to jump in backwards.... 😧😧😧
Fair warning, it's not for the faint of heart!
proud cousins!
Check out the video!
Lastly I'll leave you with this.
After your jump, your semi heart attack, and when you're done swinging, there is a beautiful little waterfall for you to see...
So the lesson here is, if you don't jump, you never get to see the beautiful waterfalls of life!!!
That's it for me.. Hope you enjoyed our trip together. As always if you have questions or comment, or just want to connect, hit me up below.
Cheers,
