Hello Everyone!!
I was only 35 when I visited this beautiful place in Sri Lanka, I honestly was surprised to realize that it took me this years to visit this breathtaking place called Polonnaruwa.
The route was picturesque crossing from one province to the other , we started the journey early in the morning.
Our first stop was to see a temple called Seruvila ,right beside a lagoon and the ocean and the map showed the location as below ,
even though it was in the dry zone the location was just like a paint with blue and green and that was very much eye soothing.
This is me and my husband enjoying the unexpected view in the dry zone.
Then we resumed the journey en route was way more beautiful and peaceful than the route before .
Then we visited ancient ruins of Polonnaruwa Kingdom, me being a citizen I was amazed to see the talent of architectural sense , choices and the tiny details of stone cravings in the ancient ruins ages ago. How rich was the technology how rich was the knowledge of the people back in the day where the technology was not so much developed like now.
As It was closer to noon we head back to the motel where we had reserved to stay and came back in the evening to visit the rest of the area where most of the ruins were of a shrine made of stones and also a palace.
Those were ruins of a kingdom still standing tall majestically , we were imagining how kings , queens and their families must have enjoyed the beautiful scenery and the spacious gardens, huge ponds with a view. How tiny we were compared to the ruins the royal palaces back then we felt.
With that in our mind we head back home to the city in the evening after spending sometime by the massive ,famous “Parakrama” lake in Polonnaruwa.
