Tour Comuna 13 - Medellín, Colombia

Hello! I’m back again but this time travelling to Medellín, Colombia. This is the city where I was born, but there was a lot of time since I haven’t been there. I wanna show just a part of the city.

This is a popular neighbourhood called San Javier, most commonly known as comuna 13. It’s known because of their acts of violence. Pablo Escobar used to live in this area. The houses are built in hard conditions, and are socially marginated. But as an attempt to make it better, it was restored as a tourist attraction.

Full of graffiti, painted murals, restaurants and drinking places, has become a must visit for all the tourists and locals. Here are some pictures of my path through comuna 13.

The "P" is for "Pilsen" which is the local beer. We can see other city’s landscapes, as the malls and comunas, the MetroCable, Cable Railway.

There are two football teams in this city, Atlético Nacional, which is the most popular and most laureated. The other one is Deportivo Independiente Medellín, is the the second oldest football team in Colombia.

All the artists are from the comuna, so it’s a good initiative for they and promote the culture in this place.

There are a lot of access for this place, since it is a knoll, you have to walk a lot, but you can do it also by the electric stairs. The streets are narrow and shared with motorcycles, so we had to be careful when walking.

On weekends this is very crowded, so it’s also hard to walk, but the ambient is good and you can see a lot of things and culture. You can find alternative fashion, urban style and more relaxed people.

Here is a beautiful view of the city from the top of the hill. Medellín is also a big city and surrounded by mountains, great weather and nice people. Definitely you have to come here!
