Hello, friends, world travelers, and community, greetings. After coming down here to India we had to organize many things, from cleaning the house to repairing the well pump, car, messy garden, and many things to do. Plus we needed to buy food. We live in a small town and most things we can buy here but some special items we have to buy in Goa. The nearest town in
Goa is Mapusa.
Our car was at the garage for some essential service. So we had to travel by public transport for around 1 and a half hours by bus. sometimes it is good to feel like we are in the typical everyday atmosphere of village life in India.
Our bus terminal.
During school hours some students also travel by public transport. Only a very few places provide special school buses.
The roads are not so good but the nature is beautiful many places along the way.
Getting a window seat is an advantage.
After crossing this river we entered Goa.
The.bus stops for 5 minutes at the first Goan bus station.
From here our bus takes the Goa-Mumbai highway with better road standard.
But road work is always going on somewhere.
finally entering Mapusa the municipal building, with old style Portuguese architecture.
Obeying the traffic lights is viewed as optional by many.
Since I was a child this building has been standing here, Now it is very old typical Portuguese architecture. many of these types of buildings were demolished and rebuilt in more modern style.
still, there are a few more old buildings in the town along the main road.
This is the neighborhood where I was working years ago before i married. the chapel is rebuilt but the other old buildings still bring back memories.
Congested roads full of traffic.
here in the market construction work is going on.
The parking lot at the entrance of the market where fruit stalls start even though there is work in progress they do their business very calmly.
here we can buy many different fruits tropical as well as imported.
One area is for all types of clothes, hosiery, fancy items of clothing and accessories.
The street vendors protect their products from sun and dust so they always make temporary shelter using colored plastic here the red plastic tints all the spices.
This section is indoor and the vendors have their permanent places. Mostly local goan products are sold here.
This is where i buy palm jaggery and some other ingredients which I don't get in our village.
In the flower section tons of flowers are sold each day, Many hindu temples require fresh flowers daily, and marriages, any parties, or gatherings are always decorated with lots of fresh flowers. This is mainly a wholesale market but retail sales are also done.
Opposite the flower lane many alcohol shops sell cheap alcohol.
But we prefer to freshly pressed sugarcane juice.
I get my specialty baking items here at this corner shop.
paid parking lot.
Walk towards Tulsi cafe for a little refreshment.
and avocado juice/smoothie.
Hanuman temple and God Hanuman
