Today we arrived in Verona in Italy, the last stop on our Italian vacation. The weather has been kind again to us today and it was up in the 20s !
This is our first visit to Verona, and its all very much new to us, and we've been trying to find our way around. And so far we love it !!
The city centre is not that large, and it has little close packed streets, with stunning renaissance architecture, which is also interspaced with roman ruins ! Its quite a cool mix - its like a tiny cross between Florence and Rome !
It even has its own colosseum (called the Arena). A lot smaller, with only two layers and 2 wall circles. We plan to get inside first thing in the morning - the queue was too long today.
But what a great building/ruin !
And Verona has some real crackers - like the Torre dei Lamberti above !
And I just love the city centre buildings in general - with lovely yellow and orangey coloured buildings - it is really pretty !
And there are shutters everywhere - they look great.
Its quite an interesting place - its been really busy at key places like Juliet's House (as in Romeo and Juliet), and then just 2 streets away, it'll be dead quiet - quite nice !!
We have stayed in the centre within the river loop and the city walls, where all the older architecture is - but its a pretty city in general.
Even the not so well maintained stuff has great character !!!
We are really enjoying it so far and are looking forward to hitting the sights hard tomorrow on the last day of our vacation ! We have our city pass booked - so we are ready to rock n roll !
