Hello, travelers from the 
Exploring, discovering nature, and experiencing the animal ecosystem is a lifelong dream for many people; however, the vast majority never get the chance to make it a reality.
One alternative to solve this problem is zoos, wonderful places that "adopt" wild animals so they can be exhibited to the public. Today, I have the pleasure of inviting you to join my experience at: the Ciego de Ávila Zoological Park complex in Cuba. When was the last time you visited a zoo? Come along with me!

Recorrer, conocer la naturaleza y el ecosistema animal es un sueño en la vida de muchas personas, sin embargo, la gran mayoría no tiene la oportunidad de hacerlo realidad.
Una alternativa para resolver este problema son los zoológicos, un maravilloso lugar que "adopta" animales salvajes que pueden ser exhibidos al público. Hoy tengo el placer de invitarlos a mi experiencia en: El complejo parque zoológico de Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. ¿Cuándo fue la última vez que visitaste un zoo? ¡Acompáñame!
To begin this wonderful encounter with nature, we advanced along a path lined with majestic trees. The lush tropical vegetation frames a large part of the landscape, creating a natural, fresh, and welcoming atmosphere.
There are wide expanses of grass, trails, and terrain perfect for hiking. The photographs show a serene horizon, ideal for disconnecting and connecting with the surroundings of the Ciego de Ávila province.
Para iniciar este maravilloso encuentro con la naturaleza, avanzamos por un sendero bordeado de imponentes árboles. La frondosa vegetación tropical enmarca gran parte del paisaje, creando un ambiente natural, fresco y acogedor.
Hay amplias extensiones de césped, caminos y suelos para practicar senderismo. Las fotografías expresan un horizonte sereno, ideal para desconectar y conectar con el entorno avileño.
These next stone structures are in a space that feels abandoned, yet it is still well-preserved. It has benches where you can sit down to rest, chat, or enjoy the fresh air, and on either side, there are grassy areas and shaded spots where you could play sports.
Upon arriving at the entrance of the complex, you perceive a serene and sunny atmosphere. The welcome sign, surrounded by palm trees and tropical vegetation, marks the beginning of the tour. Royal palms and other leafy trees dominate the Cuban landscape, casting shade onto the visitors.
Estas siguientes estructuras de piedra, presentan un espacio abandonado, pero aún bien conservado. Cuenta con bancos para sentarse a descansar, charlar o disfrutar del aire puro, a sus lados hay césped y zonas sombreadas donde podrías practicar deportes.
Llegando a la entrada del complejo se percibe un ambiente sereno y soleado. El cartel de bienvenida rodeado de palmas y vegetación tropical marca el comienzo del paseo. Las palmas reales y otros árboles frondosos dominan el paisaje en cubano, proyectando sombra a los visitantes.
Although this zoo is not very large, it carries out a series of actions to preserve, conserve, and protect the species in captivity, as well as the flora and the environment. These initiatives include educational talks, recreational and cultural activities, tours of the animal exhibits while providing information about them, contests, activities on environmental commemoration dates, training for workers, activities with the Environmental Interest Circle, campaigns like "Clean Up the World and Let's Plant for the Planet," and reforestation and irrigation maintenance efforts.
The entrance fee to the facility is 25 Cuban pesos for adults and 10 pesos for children. So, once you have your tickets in hand, the tour begins—quite accessible and affordable, truth be told. There are no excuses not to explore it.
Este Zoológico aunque no es tan grande, realiza una serie de acciones para preservar, conservar y proteger las especies en cautiverio, así como la flora y el medio ambiente, estas se desarrollan a partir de las charlas educativas, actividades recreativas y culturales, recorridos por los exhibidores de los animales brindando información sobre los mismos, concursos y actividades en las fechas conmemorativas ambientales, capacitaciones a los trabajadores, actividades con el Círculo de Interés de Medio Ambiente, las campañas “A limpiar el mundo y sembremos por el planeta” y acciones para la reforestación y mantenimiento del regadío.
La entrada a la instalación tiene un costo de 25 pesos cubanos para adultos y 10 pesos para niños, así que una vez con los boletos en la mano inicia el recorrido, bastante accesible y económico a decir verdad, no hay excusas para no explorarlo.
At first glance, you notice there aren't many people, which suggests a relaxed visit where you can observe the animals calmly. The areas are enclosed with metal fences and have ample space, although the structures are simple.
The first animals I saw were the reptiles: a pair of very photogenic iguanas, lol, and some crocodiles that were either taking their daily nap or simply watching the public.
A primera vista, se percibe poca saturación de público, lo que sugiere una visita relajada, donde se puede observar a los animales con calma. Las áreas están delimitadas con cercas metálicas y espacios amplios, aunque de estructura sencilla.
Los primeros animales que vi, son los reptiles, una pareja de iguanas, muy fotogénica jjj y algunos cocodrilos que tomaban la siesta del día o simplemente observaban al público.
Although the space is modest, the park's caretakers make an effort, despite the economic situation the country is facing, to keep the animals in adequate and safe conditions, following basic feeding and welfare practices.
Among the mammals closest to visitors are the ponies, which are often used for short children's rides or can simply be observed while they graze peacefully. There are also the Ankole-Watusi, a breed of cattle famous for their enormous horns.
They were all very friendly and just went about their normal lives, not paying any attention to the staff.
Aunque el espacio es modesto, los cuidadores del parque se esfuerzan mediante las situaciones económicas que presenta el país en mantener a los animales en condiciones adecuadas y seguras, siguiendo prácticas de alimentación y bienestar básico.
Entre los mamíferos más cercanos a los caminantes están los ponis, que a menudo se utilizan para pequeños paseos infantiles o simplemente ser observados mientras pastan tranquilamente. Además de los Ankole-Watusi una raza bovina, famosa por su enorme cornamenta.
Todos muy simpáticos e incluso seguían con su vida normal, sin preocuparse del personal.
Of course! I couldn't miss taking photos of the camel, a hoofed mammal that is part of the camelid family. These animals originated in America but migrated to Europe, Asia, and Africa during the Ice Age. Some notable features include their peculiar hump, which is formed by an accumulation of fatty tissue.
It is described by the center's workers as an incredibly affectionate and sociable animal, to the point where you can touch it, feed it, and observe it up close.
¡Por supuesto! No podía faltar fotos del camello siendo un mamífero ungulado que forma parte de la familia de los camélidos. Estos animales se originaron en América, pero emigraron a Europa, Asia y África durante el período glacial. Algunas características destacadas son, que tienen una peculiar joroba formada por acumulación de tejido adiposo.
Es descrito por los trabajadores del centro como un animal súper cariñoso y sociable, al punto de tocarlo, darle comida y observarlo muy de cerca.
Although it is a smaller complex compared to others in the country, its welcoming atmosphere and diverse offerings make it a beloved spot for locals and tourists alike.
I took some photos of a sweet pair of doves and some geese that were resting under the roofs. They stay in small areas, walking freely around the zoo, bringing life and relaxing sounds to the environment.
A pesar de que es un complejo más pequeño en comparación con otros del país, su ambiente acogedor y su oferta diversa lo convierten en un sitio muy querido por locales y turistas.

Elsewhere, behind the metal mesh, there is a group of primate mammals, with many species of the genus, truly the best thing the zoo has to offer.
They are very photogenic, accept food, play with the staff, and have an active social life. They belong to the same taxonomic order as human beings. That interaction, though simple, creates a special moment where the animal watches you almost as much as you watch it.
En otra parte, detrás de la malla metálica, un conjunto de mamíferos primates, de muchas especies del género, la verdad es lo mejor qué hay en el zoológico.
Son muy fotogénicos, aceptan comida y juegan con el personal, con una vida social activa, pertenecen a la misma orden taxonómica que los seres humanos. Esa interacción, aunque sencilla, crea un momento especial, donde el animal te observa casi tanto como tú a él.
As for the pair of chimpanzees, they were resting in their area, occasionally trying to reach for food outside the cage, without much interest in interacting with people. But at least they let us enjoy their antics and natural behavior.
Founded several decades ago, this zoo has served as a space for environmental education and recreation, combining animal exhibits with green areas and resting spots throughout the park.
En cuanto a la pareja de chimpancé, descansaban en su área, intentaban coger comida fuera de la jaula, sin mucho ánimo de contactar con las personas. Pero al menos nos dejaron disfrutar de sus travesuras y ámbito natural.
Fundado hace varias décadas, este zoo ha servido como espacio de educación ambiental y recreación, combinando la exposición de animales con áreas verdes y zonas de descanso en el parque.
Getting a photo to take home is practically a must when encountering the monkeys—they are so sociable with visitors that they've become one of the favorite attractions for children.
This one is a big fan of almonds and the seeds from the Royal Poinciana (Flamboyant) trees.
Llevarse una captura a casa es casi obligado en el encuentro con los monos, son muy sociables con los visitantes, al punto de ser una de las atracciones favoritas para los niños.

The almost last animal I saw on the tour was the hippopotamus, which usually spends a large part of the day on a ledge or submerged in the water; but I was lucky enough to watch it while it was eating.
It is one of the main attractions due to its impressive size, exotic nature, and curious behavior.
Casi el último animal que vi en el recorrido fue el hipopótamo que suele estar en un estante, gran parte del día y sumergido en el agua; pero tuve la suerte apreciarlo mientras comía.
Es una de las grandes atracciones por su tamaño impresionante, exótico y su comportamiento curioso.
Wrapping up this walk among the animals of my city, I came across an enclosure with peccaries—mammals belonging the Tayassuidae family, which are often confused with wild boars.
I was also struck by the many signs throughout the complex advocating for their protection. They express regret over the indiscipline and behavior of some parents and children, because "there are quite a few who throw stones, branches, and forbidden food at the animals, scratch the signs, or drop trash outside the bins." Therefore, transforming behaviors in favor of environmental care must be a priority every day.
There is so much wildlife and so many new things to see that there isn't enough time to calmly enjoy them all. Unfortunately, there was too much sun, it was very hot, and time passed quite quickly.
Finalizando este paseo con los animales de mi ciudad, encontré un cautiverio de pecaríes son mamíferos que pertenecen a la familia Tayassuidae, que a menudo se les confunde con los jabalíes.
Me impresiono además muchos carteles en el complejo en general, para la protección de ellos, lamentan las indisciplinas y el comportamiento de algunos padres e hijos pues, “no son pocos los que tiran piedras, ramas y comida prohibida a los animales, rayan las pancartas o echan la basura fuera de los cestos”. Por ello, transformar conductas a favor del cuidado medioambiental tiene que ser premisa día a día.
Hay tanta fauna y novedades que no hay tiempo para disfrutarlos todos con calma, por desgracia había demasiado sol, mucha calor y el tiempo pasó bastante rápido.
