Did you know? In Old Havana within the baroque architecture of the Cathedral Habanera, is located a bell tower that you can visit and get from there, a unique perspective of beautiful panoramic views of the majestic church, its surroundings and the square in general. Interesting, isn't it?

¿Sabías qué? En la habana vieja dentro de la arquitectura barroca de la Cathedral Habanera, se encuentra ubicado un campanario que puedes visitar y obtener de allí, una perspectiva única de hermosas vistas panorámicas de la majestuosa iglesia, sus alrededores y la plaza en general. Interesante, ¿verdad?
Pues en este viaje además les mostraré un paseo expositivo por la cultura árabe y de otras regiones del medio oriente. ¡Acompáñame en este maravilloso recorrido 😉!
To get to the viewpoint of the bell tower, take Empedrado Street between San Ignacio and De los Mercaderes, until you reach Chorro Alley. It is open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 3 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to 12 noon, with a cost of 10 pesos in local currency for Cubans and 100 pesos for foreigners.
The Cathedral began to be built in 1748 and even today, as we approach, its monumental facade dazzles us why it is considered the most finished, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and beautiful church of all those built during Cuba's colonial period.
Para llegar al mirador del campanario, debemos tomar la calle Empedrado entre San Ignacio y De los mercaderes, hasta llegar al callejón del Chorro. Esta abierta de lunes a viernes de 9 am - 3 pm y los sábados de 9 am a 12 del día, con un costo de 10 pesos en moneda nacional para cubanos y para extranjeros 100 pesos.
La Catedral comenzó a edificarse en 1748 y aún en el presente, mientras nos acercamos, su monumental fachada nos deslumbra por qué es considerada como la más acabada, declarada patrimonio de la humanidad por la UNESCO y hermosa iglesia de cuantas fueron construidas en la etapa colonial de Cuba.
As we climb, the stairs are narrow and never seem to end from this starting point. We take small breaths and we see how the city is transfigured with the ascent. Exhausted, I reach the top, but as a well-known Cuban psychologist says: “It's worth it” 😁🤩.
Al subir, las escaleras son estrechas y parecen no acabar nunca desde este punto de partida. Vamos haciendo pequeños respiros y vemos cómo se trasfigura la ciudad con el ascenso. Agotado, llegue arriba, pero como dice un conocido sicólogo cubano: "Vale la pena" 😁🤩.
From the top, you can appreciate details of the colonial infrastructure and its red tile roofs typical of the period. This tower, not only served to call to mass, but also functioned as a reference point for sailors due to its height.
It is the perfect combination of history, art and urban landscape.
Desde lo alto, se aprecian detalles de la infraestructura colonial y sus techos de tejas rojos típicos del período. Esta torre, no solo servía para llamar a misa, sino que también funcionaba como punto de referencia para los navegantes debido a su altura.
Es la combinación perfecta entre historia, arte y paisaje urbano.
The bells were cast according to historians in 1797, they are huge and quite heavy. They are still functional for special events of the cathedral.
Las campanas fueron fundidas según los historiadores en 1797, son enormes y la verdad pesan bastante. Aún son funcionales para eventos especiales de la catedral.
At a glance you can see the sea, with its entrance to the bay of Havana and the statue of Christ in the area of the Morro fortress. You can also see the mansion of the Marquis of Aguas Claras, with its blue windows with stained glass that contrast with the stonework on the facades.
According to the sanctuary's workers, it is said that the best pictures should be taken at sunset, when the coral stones of its construction shine in golden tones.
A la mirada se ve el mar, con su entrada a la bahía de la habana y la estatua del cristo en la zona de la fortaleza del morro. Además se observa la mansión del Marqués de Aguas Claras, que lucen sus ventanales azules con vitrales que contrastan con la piedra de cantería en las fachadas.
Según los trabajadores del santuario, se dice que las mejores tomas fotografías deberían ser al atardecer, cuando las piedras coralinas de su construcción brillan en tonos dorados.
On the other hand, during my visit to the capital, I visited a house museum of the Arabs in Cuba, since the largest building was being restored.
This precinct aims at the dissemination of Arab culture, customs, traditions and art, as well as the study of the Arab presence in Cuba, from the first contacts promoted by the Spanish colonization, to the migratory movement of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Por otra parte en mi visita a la capital, conocí una casa museo de los árabes en cuba, pues el local más grande estaba en restauración.
Este recinto pretende la divulgación de la cultura, costumbres, tradiciones y arte árabe, así como el estudio de la presencia árabe en Cuba, desde los primeros contactos promovidos por la colonización española, hasta el movimiento migratorio de fines del siglo XIX y principios del XX.

On display are everyday spaces, Bedouin and maritime environments, copper and polished gold coffee pots. In addition decorative elements such as mosaics, panels, arches and carpets, where everything exhibited is well cared for.

Se exhiben espacios de la cotidianidad, ambientes beduinos y marítimos, cafeteras de cobre y oro pulido. Además elementos decorativos como mosaicos, tableros, arcos y alfombras, donde todo lo expuesto presenta un buen cuidado.
You know I have always been curious to wear these types of garments and hoods, to see how they fit and how they look, too bad they don't have this option in the museum.
Also on display are trays, basketry, indus flip flops, various camel saddle items 🐫 and quality donated jewelry.
Saben siempre he tenido la curiosidad de usar estos tipos de vestimentas y capuchas, para ver qué tal me quedan y cómo lucen, lástima no tienen esta opción en el museo.
Se exponen también bandejas, cesterías, chancletas indus, varios artículos de monturas de camello 🐫 y joyerías de calidad donadas.
By way of conclusion I will comment that it is not a large museum, but its niche makes it special in its rich history. Ideal for curious travelers.
At the end of the corridor there are several objects donated by the commander leader of the Cuban revolution Fidel Castro and his brother Raul Castro, who had great ties of friendship with the Arabian nation.
A modo de conclusión les comentaré que no es un museo grande, pero su nicho lo hace especial en su rica historia. Ideal para viajeros curiosos.
Al final del pasillo hay varios objetos cedidos por el comandante líder de la revolución cubana Fidel Castro y su hermano Raúl Castro, que tenían grandes lazos de amistad con la nación arábiga.
The exhibition center is located at Oficios Street #16 between Obispo and Obrapía, Old Havana. It can be visited from Tuesday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm at no monetary cost.
Inside the estancia there are multiple additional extra functions, such as concerts, regional dance shows, a library, book presentations and cultural-educational programming for the visiting public. 😊
El centro expositivo se sitúa en calle Oficios #16 entre Obispo y Obrapía, habana vieja. El mismo puede ser visitado de martes a viernes en el horario de 9 am a 4 pm sin un costo monetario.
Dentro de la estancia hay múltiples funciones adicionales extra, como conciertos, espectáculos de bailes regionales, una biblioteca, presentaciones de libros y programación cultural-educativa para el público visitante. 😊
